A friend in Chicago brought this article to my attention. The BTTF II prediction for 2015 could turn out to be true, and if so you could win yourself a DeLorean! See the article at the following link http://chicagoist.com/2015/08/12/contest...the_cu.php.

  Passenger door issue
Posted by: MALCHICK69 - 13 Aug 2015, 08:29 - Forum: General Discussions on the DOC / Car / Company / JZD - Replies (6)

Hi guys,

My passenger door has suddenly stopped opening from the inside and i have to go around the car and let out my passenger 'like a gentleman'. When i open the passenger door from the outside i have to turn the key to the left and and lift the handle at the same time for the door to open. Any ideas how i can sort this out?

Thanks in advance guys.

  Attaching front number plate
Posted by: Doive - 12 Aug 2015, 20:14 - Forum: 8 - Frame / Body / Interior - Replies (1)

Been tidying up the front of our car, first off removing the daft sidelights from a trailer/caravan, that were presumably fitted to get it through it's first MoT in the UK. These were stuck on with sticky tab squares, so thankfully the bumper cover isn't marked. The number plate has been stuck on with four bits of velcro - which is good as it means no unsightly screw holes. When I take the car to shows I was planning to remove the number plate, and fit a dealer style plate in it's place, but I want to dispense with the velcro - I had wondered about having sticky backed magnetic strips on the plate. Is there anything metallic directly behind the bumper cover, or could I get up in there to stick a lump of metal in? Would I need to take the bumper cover off?

Fitted my new car phone-1980s retro style!!
Posted by: bjbrownie - 11 Aug 2015, 19:03 - Forum: Members Cars - Replies (13)

I fitted my eBay bargain 1980s car phone today, it's an NEC Aircall and I thought it would make a great addition to the car-no holes were drilled anywhere, apart from the replacement ashtray kindly provided by Mr Parnham and it may well have been designed to fit in a DMC (or not!).
I haven't wired it up yet,but an auto electrician pal is looking into sorting it out so at least it lights up-the network it used is long gone. 8)

  Rough running
Posted by: Rissy - 11 Aug 2015, 11:04 - Forum: 1 - Engine - Replies (14)

Hey folks,

I've finished getting my car back together again after an arduous 7 week constant period of work to it.

Amongst my work, I changed my old fuel lines for new ones at the tank and engine (except I'm still running original fuel feed from the filter to the fuel distributor cause I couldn't get access to the filter without ramps, so
I'll leave that one until I'm back in Edinburgh - could probably do with a check for fuel filter model required these days too?)

Anyway, I started the car up for the first time on Sunday night. It took nearly 10 mins of almost constant cranking to get the thing to start and then about 20 mins to settle down to the point it's constantly at now. I ran the engine again last night. In fact I also risked a short drive to get fresh fuel put in the tank.

However, the engine is still running really rough compared to normal.

The car is hesitant under acceleration. I really need to push the pedal down to overcome the hesitation, and the engine idles more rough than usual. The engine sounds more growly than normal. Less smooth. It's more smelly now too. Almost like I'm running rich.

I've checked the seating of all the injectors and plugs. They're all good. I don't suspect the engine to be misfiring or running on fewer than all 6 cylinders because the engine isn't rocking like it was for that first 20 mins on Sunday night. It's idling at just below the 1000rpm mark.

I've had it suggested to me that it might be a vacuum leak. I'll be pouring all over the engine tonight to check for anything obvious, but I was very careful and methodical at rebuilding the top end of the engine since I was also in to the VOD a few weeks ago. I've got all new o rings put in upon rebuilding too.

Does anyone have any other ideas if I can't find any vacuum pipes damaged or loose or pulled off etc?

How do I look at adjusting the air/fuel mixture if this might be necessary?

I can probably get the 2.5hrs to Norfolk like this, but it ain't gonna be easy going. Id appreciate some helpful feedback from anyone willing to help me. If it's easier to talk me through anything on the phone, my number is 07717454140. I'm all ears and in need of an expert friend. Thanks. Smile

  Indicator Stalk self cancelling
Posted by: Emagine - 11 Aug 2015, 10:41 - Forum: 5 - Suspension / Steering - Replies (8)

Morning all,

Well trying to sort out a couple of niggly things with #5641 before this weekends meeting.

My indicator stalk won't self cancel when when putting on the indicators and then turning the steering wheel.

Before I dive in and start to take things apart (and creating a bigger problem) is this likely to be an easy fix? Whats the mechanism that cancels the indicator?

Stu

North Cheshire Classic Show,2nd August 2015,Ellesmere Port
Posted by: bjbrownie - 09 Aug 2015, 18:47 - Forum: Northern England - No Replies

This event was rained off last year, the weather forecast wasn't particularly summery but loads of classics took the time out to venture up to the Vauxhall Motors South car park to park and shine. A varied selection with quite a few new faces and cars-one guy had just bought a restored Triumph Stag and was made up to be in a show with like minded petrol heads!
I got talking to an elderly gent who was the second owner of a 1936 Austin which has only done a genuine 26k, which I thought was amazing. A good show and plenty to see here 8)
