Car Show Haddington 2nd June 2018
Posted by: Chris Williams - 28 Mar 2018, 10:37 - Forum: Scotland - No Replies

ELMOC Car Show 2018

Edinburgh & Lothians Mini Owners Club are proud to invite you and your club to our Classic Car Show to be held at Neilson Park, Haddington near Edinburgh on the 2nd June 2018 from 11am to 4pm.
This year our 6th year running the show and as ever the ELMOC car show is open to all makes and models of cars and clubs.

Incorporating our car show with the annual Haddington Festival Fun day it promises to be a great day out for all the family.
With a good range of Minis, Classic Cars, Show cars, kids rides, face painting and much more yet to be confirmed. The event will be free to the public.
For entrants there will be the added incentive of trophies and prizes for cars voted by a few members of the public. Last year we had prize contributions from local and national sponsors.

We are offering display pitches for clubs and individuals. We have space for up to 60 cars and will be opening invitations from all makes and models.
There has been a request in joining the Parade that goes round the town. I would like to gauge feelings on this from you and your members to see if this would be something worth taking part in? The parade itself is very slow moving and older cars have been known to overheat. We have been asked to do our own parade lap at a faster speed this year to prevent overheating.

Please let your members know and come back to us uf you are interested in attending.

We would love for your club to take a stand at our event and help us make this an annual event that will be popular with the public.

  Front indicator functionality legality
Posted by: Rissy - 27 Mar 2018, 13:53 - Forum: Members Cars - Replies (6)

So another year, another MOT.  Lexi passed her MOT on Friday.....just.

A grumbling point.....again, is indicators.  I was nearly failed for the front indicators flashing bright-dim-bright (with side lights on of course) instead of on-off-on, like the back do.  I know the deal.  I understand the functionality.  I had to explain this to my MOT man.  What I want to know and understand is the legality point of view on this.  Is it, or is it not legal for these cars front indicators to be doing this?  I'm quite frankly fed up being pulled up for things on MOT's which no other owner seems to be.  The good news is, that's the last time my car will be MOT'd in Scotland at that garage.  Next year, I have to start the knowledge-base with a new MOT tester all over again in Rugby.

Thanks in advance for any help

Fuel gauge is pointing down no matter what
Posted by: Chris Hawes - 26 Mar 2018, 22:17 - Forum: 3 - Electrical - Replies (9)

Another new recent problem, my fuel gauge is pointing down no matter what.
So far I've done the following:-

I've used the multi-meter to verify that the signal from the green/black wire (for the gauge needle) beeps at the plug for the sender as it does on corresponding pin (A4) on the big white connector behind the binnacle.  I then kept the multi-meter on the same sender end of the harness and tested each other pin of the binnacle connector expecting to hear another beep from another wire to indicate a short, but there were no other beeps.

I then performed the same test for the light green and orange wire (for the sender light) in the same way to the above, only to find the same outcome.

I'm pleased that there appears to be no short but stumped as to why my gauge is all of a sudden pointing south.  The other gauges are all still running perfectly.

Any input or suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks in advance

Chris

vin 11789 unusual to have this missing?
Posted by: SpudMurphy - 22 Mar 2018, 21:59 - Forum: Members Cars - Replies (1)

Hi.
I've been spending a little time over the months working on vin 11789. I've replaced most of the fuel lines, all the vac hoses, water pipes, rad, expansion tank, and "dry fitted" everything in the engine bay. ( By that I mean no copper washers on the injector pipes or jubilee clips) I've refitted the exhaust and am about ready to try firing her up. But realised that it is missing (another) something. this ... On facebook it's been confirmed that it should be there!!!

So before I lash out on a new one  - does anybody have one for sale?

it's a shame because there's not a lot to it engineering wise - but I don't have the gear to make one.

Window Regulator issues - any ideas?
Posted by: priesh - 22 Mar 2018, 17:25 - Forum: 3 - Electrical - Replies (7)

Hi all,

My car came with a broken window regulator on the passenger side - could hear the motor whirring but window was stuck open.

The previous owner gave me a replacement second-hand regulator, so I finally got round to doing the swap.

After taking the door panels off, I could see that the old regulator had a snapped plastic bracket part of the mechanism.

I tested the replacement regulator, and nothing happened when I tried the switch up/down.

I then double checked the wiring by testing the old one and that whirred ok.

I assumed the motor of the replacement regulator had gone, so I removed the motor from my original regulator, and put that with the mechanism of the replacement - this also did not work.

So, both motors turn ok when seperated from the mechanism, but if I screw on the mechanism neither work - I just hear a click but no movement.

Is there something I can do to free up this replacement mechanism?

The picture below shows my original and the replacement - you can see the top one has a broken bracket.

Craig aux port - anyone tried?

Hey all - I'm thinking of doing this at some point and was wondering if anyone has tried it? Looks pretty simple, and means you get a much cleaner sound.

  Ducellier Alternator
Posted by: SpudMurphy - 14 Mar 2018, 11:52 - Forum: 3 - Electrical - Replies (9)

A question for you experts.

I have the "old style" (underpowered) Ducellier Alternator on my car - as fitted to all the cars in the batch of 50 exported to the Middle East.

Yes, I will probably replace it as funds become available.

But to get my engine fired up I was wondering about rebuilding it?

Have any of you guys done this to this particular Alternator? If so are parts easily available for it?

Cheers

A610 3.0L PRV V6 DeLorean ‘Legacy 2’ Project For Sale

A610 3.0L PRV V6 DeLorean ‘Legacy 2’ Project For Sale

Overview
The below project was designed around replacing the older, normally aspirated odd fire 2.85L PRV V6 in my DeLorean DMC-12 with a later even fired PRV which was better suited to turbo charging.  The turbo charged A610 3.0L PRV fitted this brief perfectly, as it helps to keep the original ‘PRV’ look, sound and feel; but with an evolved, enhanced solution much like how DMC would have approached this, should the technology/time been available during the DeLorean’s development cycle (which was up to the January 1981 launch).  As such, anyone wanting a PRV powered car (A310, A610, Alpine, Venturi, kit car, to name just a few) to maintain a level of ‘purity’ yet enjoy the benefits of a compact, forged, evolved solution to experience a performance increase as well as maintaining reliability, please read on…

The information and parts below represent a huge head start into the project which was managed from the beginning by John Law of JL Engineering https://www.facebook.com/jlengineeringuk at the helm.  JL Engineering was chosen based on the high quality of similar other ‘super’ PRV builds.  JL uses only the very best components and suppliers to produce a stronger internal base to cope with being able to produce a reliable 300 to 350HP when utilising modern EFI and twin turbos.  The new components listed below (rods, pistons, liners etc) will be good for up to 600 wheel HP.

Project Brief
A bit of background of the DeLorean Turbo legacy:-
A few DeLorean Twin Turbos exist out there, but they are based on using the original odd-file 2.85 V6 with intercoolers (the way Legend Industries were tackling it).  https://www.pjgrady.co.uk/legend-industries Legend were working with the technology of the time i.e. the DeLorean had been released in early 1981 and to address the low power output they were tasked to develop single and twin turbo options.  The odd fire PRV version can only be boosted mildly, hence why I wanted the ‘Legacy 2’ to take Legend’s legacy of their twin turbo approach; but with the benefits of the later even fire PRV, EFI and turbo technology now available.

Reason for sale
Although I started my conversion project based around the ‘purity’ of an upgraded ‘forged’ PRV 3.0 V6 (A610) twin turbo solution I realised part way through that a normally aspirated LS3 V8 would be more suited to my requirements i.e. normally aspirated V8 instead of a twin turbo charged V6.  As such, the parts below will give anyone who wants to pursue a ‘super’ PRV project a huge head start.

Progressing Further
JL Engineering has confirmed they are very happy to continue the project with the new owner of the parts if required.  Currently all of the parts listed below are at my home in Milton Keynes.

Condition of the three groups for sale
The parts below have been separated into three groups:-

·         GROUP 1 - original overhauled A610 engine block and other aluminium ancillaries have been vapour blasted and then applied with an ACF-50 anti-corrosion aircraft grade coating
·         GROUP 2 - used A610 parts that were part of the original factory A610 engine
·         GROUP 3 - Brand new (forged where applicable) parts specified by JL Engineering and manufactured from their various specialists

Brand new oil pressure and turbo boost gauges which have an anti-glare coating.  SPA installed a white LED backlight in each when ordered to match the DeLorean; as the off the shelf models at the time only came with blue or red LED back lights.  Photos show the optimal position within a DeLorean to not obscure view.  The next phase would have been to make a fibreglass pod to mimic the larger dashboard binnacle.

300-350hp takes you to the threshold of the higher end limit of a single plate setup. A single plate would mean a heavier pedal and be a larger heavier unit.  A single would behave much like the standard clutch but be at the limits of its design with the car running full power.  A single clutch could struggle with track days etc.  The twin plate is lighter both in weight and on the pedal.  It may feel slightly grippier than a standard clutch but will enable smoother shifting when driving harder. The twin plate will hold the torque without issue.

The price for all items listed above is £9,700 which includes FREE worldwide shipping.  I will however consider serious offers if the buyer is prepared to organise and pay for their own collection.  I’d rather sell as a job lot but if someone just wants one or two of the three groups as covered above, then contact me with an offer.
