  Prototype Rubber Extrusion Die
Posted by: Nick H - 05 May 2018, 23:29 - Forum: General Discussions on the DOC / Car / Company / JZD - Replies (2)

I have been clearing out my garage lately and came across this prototype rubber extrusion die.

I did my apprenticeship at a large American OEM automotive sealing systems manufacture. Standard Products Co. known as Silent Channel at the time of DeLorean. (now part of Cooper Tires)
We made rubber seals and body side mouldings for several manufactures e.g. Ford, Land Rover, MG Rover, Aston Martin, Bentley/Rolls Royce etc.

Back in the mid 90’s I was helping one of the Project Engineers clear out a lot of prototype rubber extrusion die’s. Those that had no paperwork were to be disposed off.  If I remember correctly it was to do with ISO 9001.

One of the dies had “DeLorean” stamped on it. No one at the time who worked there could tell me anything about it. However knowing I was a DeLorean fan the Project Engineer gave me the die as other wise it was going in the scrap bin.

Years later when I got my car. I identified it as the die for the outer door seal.

I corresponded with Nick Sutton on the forum and he said that Silent Channel did not make the seals for the production car but he reckoned Lotus probably used the “Channel” for the prototype builds.

Not sure anybody will be interested but I thought I’d share.

Nick H

  2 ‘81s for sale
Posted by: TristanC - 01 May 2018, 20:09 - Forum: DeLorean Cars or Parts For Sale or Wanted - Replies (2)

There’s 2 for sale here (the site was part of my daily search when I was in the market)
Both ‘81s, both grey interior.
One is manual one Auto.
The manual is keenly priced and is in KMs.....

https://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/delorean

I spoke to the chap with the £37k manual and he had a buyer about a month ago from Germany..... I can only assume the sale fell through.

The auto I’ve seen for sale before, but now seems to be on the market again.

  H4 headlight bulb recommendations?
Posted by: priesh - 29 Apr 2018, 17:56 - Forum: 3 - Electrical - Replies (2)

Hi all - my low beam headlights are very dim. They've been like this since I got the car. I'm going to check the wiring etc of the hella units to make sure they were rewired correctly but I thought I'd change the bulbs for new ones anyway.

There are lots of types of H4 bulbs - does anyone prefer any specific ones? Is it best to get high intensity ones?

Cheers!

Temp gauge - is this the sender??
Posted by: TristanC - 29 Apr 2018, 07:48 - Forum: 3 - Electrical - Replies (13)

Whilst reading lots of threads about the temp sender on the passenger side of the engine, and also a few reference shots, I thought I’d easily be able to locate the temperature sender and check the connection.....

However, whilst I think I found it..... it looks nothing like the examples I’ve seen. It has a rubber cover over the end..... maybe this is it? Perhaps someone in the know could confirm for me?

This is looking into the engine bay from the passenger side of the car.
I see the single light green cable going in, and it seems to go to a metal screw in unit into the engine.

  BTTF Car for sale.

A BTTF conversion (of sorts) on pistonheads. Whilst not (in my opinion) a perfect screen replica, Guessing Nik Speakmans car. A bargain 125k. Yep I did write that 125k.

Croydon Classic Car Show. 24th June 2018
Posted by: Chris Williams - 27 Apr 2018, 11:55 - Forum: South East - No Replies

Dear Enthusiast

We have started to organise the 2018 Croydon Classic Car Show and are hoping that you would tell your members who live close by about the event so that they can come along and exhibit their vehicle.  Last year we had over 100 vehicles and we are hoping to have a similarly successful show this year.

As before, there is a small entrance fee of £5 but all profit goes to charity so we hope you will find this acceptable.  For your £5 you, and your passenger, get entrance to the Show and an allocated parking spot.

Attached is a Flyer giving details of the show plus an Entry Form.  If you are interested in exhibiting your vehicle please fill in the form and send it back to me with your fiver (cash or cheque made out to the Rotary Club of Croydon Whitgift).

We intend holding the mid-morning and mid-afternoon vehicle parade again this year with a commentary.  If you could let the commentator have any brief interesting facts about your vehicle (owned by someone famous, only one of 6 made, 0 to 60 in 4 seconds, etc) it would help to make the commentary more interesting.

All the profit we make goes to charity. This is only possible because of your support.  We are very grateful for your help.

If you would like to be parked next to another entrant please let me know and I will endeavour to make this arrangement.

I look forward to receiving your form shortly and look forward to seeing you and your vehicle at the show.

All the best

Heritage Day, Amersham. 9th Sept 2018
Posted by: Chris Williams - 27 Apr 2018, 11:53 - Forum: Southern England - Replies (1)

Dear Classic Car Club / Classic Car Owner,
On Sunday 9th September 2018, Amersham Town Council will be celebrating it’s Annual Heritage Day. We would like to invite you to showcase your Classic / Vintage vehicles at this well-established event. There will be an allocated area reserved specifically for Classic and Vintage vehicles which will be accessed from the top end of the Old Town High Street via Shardeloes and Mill Lane. There is no need to register, just turn up anytime from 08.00am to Old Amersham (best postcode to use is HP7 0JP) and a steward will be on hand to direct you accordingly. Space is limited…therefore we will be unable to permit entry to anyone arriving after 11.30am.
Along with Vintage and Classic vehicles there will be a whole host of other entertainment and activities including, live music, pony rides, historical re-enactments, traditional market stalls and so the list is growing!
If you would like to be involved, or just show an interest at this stage, please do get in touch! We would be really pleased to hear from you!
Many Thanks,
Zoe
