What is this ground cable for??
Posted by: TristanC - 12 May 2018, 18:49 - Forum: 3 - Electrical - Replies (3)

I started to investigate the fuel gauge issue (which I didn’t finish)
And came across this loose ground wire (clearly chewed) and have no idea where it goes to.....
any ideas?

Also, how do you guys get to the connector for the fuel sender? Mine is under the fibre glass and the wire is so tightly packed that I can’t pull it out to start my investigations...

Charity Event in Bucks 7th Sept
Posted by: r6btt - 10 May 2018, 23:07 - Forum: Southern England - Replies (4)

Hello lovely delorean people. I have done more than my bit for Car Clubs with the TT Owners Club so know how tough it is ... I have now taken a charity role after early redundancy from IBM and we are running a pop up Cinema on 7th September to raise funds for more early years equipment for the Children’s Playground in Marlow Bottom. We are a registered charity, Marlow Bottom Playing Fields. We are showing Back to the Future, and it would be wonderful if one or more of you owners could bring a car along to display. We are happy to cover reasonable fuel expenses plus the movie and a Pint of Rebellion (who are running the Bar ) or glass of wine and a Burger (or veggie equivalent) , we would need Cars from 6pm until 8pm latest. Can anyone help please.

Hi all - what value do people tend to use for wheel nut torque?

I've seen it at 80nm and 100nm in the manual and I'm not sure which to use.

Cheers!

Classic & Sports Show, Bicester 23-24 June 2018
Posted by: Chris Williams - 08 May 2018, 22:24 - Forum: Southern England - No Replies

Dear DeLorean Club members,

This year’s Classic & Sports Car Show, in association with Flywheel, is being held at the fascinating Bicester Heritage site in Oxfordshire over the weekend of 23-24 June 2018, and will include a Concours event for selected classic cars as an added attraction to the event’s intoxicating mix of historic motorsport, motoring, aviation and military vehicle attractions, with spectacular displays and live-action demonstrations throughout the Show weekend.

One of the six Concours classes for this inaugural Classic & Sport Car event will be dedicated to Movie Star Cars, including iconic vehicles from the silver screen, which naturally makes a 'Back to the Future' style DeLorean DMC12 a must for this Concours classI am therefore contacting you to see if you or any of your fellow Club/Register members might have a nice and appropriately modified original example of the model that you, he, she or they may be interested in entering as a potential Concours participant in this static Movie Cars class.

2018 Classic & Sport Car Show Concours Classes:

In addition to a People’s Choice classic car display, the 2018 Classic and Sports Car Show will stage six Concours classes, carefully chosen and dedicated to a variety of pre-1977 classic vehicle types, which for the inaugural 2018 Show will include:

-The Dawn of the Supercar: Lamborghini Miura, Countach, Ferrari Daytona, BB, Aston Martin V8, Maserati Bora, Jensen Interceptor, etc.
-Movie Star Cars: familiar cars from the Silver Screen (e.g DeLorean, Bullitt Mustang, Italian Job Minis, Blue Brothers Dodge Monaco police car, Herbie VW, etc.)
-British Leyland 50thAnniversary: (e.g. BL-era Austin Maxi, Allegro, 1100-1300, 1800-2200 'Landcrab', MG Midget, B, Morris Marina, Princess, Triumph Toledo/Dolomite, Stag, Spitfire, TR7, Rover P6, SD1, Jaguar XJ6/12, E-Type S3 V12, XJ-S, Daimler DS420 Limousine, Leyland Sherpa LCV, etc.)
-Classic and Historic Rally Cars: (e.g. rallying BMC Mini Cooper, Austin-Healey 3000, Ford Escort, Hillman Imp, Sunbeam Rapier, Saab 96, Lancia Fulvia, Stratos, Triumph TR4, TR7, etc.)
-The Class of '48: including new cars launched a the celebrated 1948 Earls Court Motor Show: (e.g Morris Minor, Jaguar XK120, Land Rover, Bristol 401, Citroen 2CV, Sunbeam-Talbot 80/90, Triumph Renown, Porsche 356, and so on
-Gassers: 1930-50s American hot rods

The Concours Participant Offer, and Vehicle Entry Summary:

As an inaugural 2018 Concours participant, the entrant will receive a minimum of four entry passes per day (Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th June), along with a complimentary event programme, plus hospitality, including catering and free access to the entire event, and the chance to socialise with your fellow Concours participants, family and friends. Each Concours participant's vehicle will be judged by an expert panel, with awards given to each class winner, plus an overall Best of Show cup, to be presented on the Sunday.

To enable us to help plan the event effectively and select the final Concours entry vehicles in advance, ahead of the Wednesday 23 May 2018 deadline, if of any interest to any of your Club Members with a suitable vehicle, please e-mail me in the first instance at garyaxonautomotive@gmail.com with the precise make, model and year of the vehicle being proposed for the Concours please, including two or three recent photographs of the car (one of which might be published in the event programme), plus a brief history/description of the actual car being proposed, including any interesting background or unusual features of the car. Thank you.

I do hope that a Member of your car club will seriously consider participating in the first Classic & Sports Car Show, in association with Flywheel, on 23-24 June at Bicester Heritage. More details and news update of the 2018 Classic & Sports Car Show, in association with Flywheel, can be found at the event's website here, https://www.classicandsportscarshow.com/show-information. If you have a friend or colleague with a vehicle you think might also be suitable for this interesting Concours, please do feel free to pass my note on to them. Thank you.

I very much look forward to hearing from you, and hopefully welcoming you to the Classic & Sports Car Show Concours in June for what promises to be an exciting and enjoyable weekend.

Thank you for your time and interest, and best wishes,

Gary Axon

Start up attempt #2 of vin 11789
Posted by: SpudMurphy - 08 May 2018, 08:44 - Forum: Members Cars - Replies (2)

With my restoration of vin 11789, the latest state of play is that I had installed all the new injectors after flushing fuel through all the lines. I checked delivery of the fuel using the "Bottle Test" and all was good.

Then bloody "Murphy's Law!" kicked in and one banjo bolt snapped on the metering head, THE last one too!!
- I'll need to order a replacement as I don't have a spare banjo.

My intention was just to blip the engine over - I still hadn't filled it back up with water for that so on Sunday I checked all hose clamps - every one had been replaced  along with new water pipes. , thermostat, water pump etc.

So I filled it up through the expansion tank ,with the top (small) pipe off the top of the rad and the bleed nipple open.

After tightening the front rad pipe, I heard the dreaded  drip drip - quite a bit actually, coming from the "screw in" otterstat .

I had to grind down a 60 year old spanner to fit it and had to wedge the ali coolant pipe with pieces of wood so that I could get some "torque" on the otterstat.

That one was sorted .. then water was spilling out of the bleed nipple - I'd tightened it but still it poured out.

It was a nipple that just kept on "giving". I tried it again adding a copper washer - nope the brand new bleed nipple is SNAFU.

So I installed the original brass one, much better ... and jobs a good un.

A small weep then showed up around the thermostat - where it mated to the water pump - so I had to take the horns off - nip up the bolts - there was still a small weep and I'll check again tomorrow . I may even contemplate using some gasket sealant !!! .. but am loath to do so?

Finally after fixing an earth problem I bridged the otterstat wires and the fans came on - cool [Image: 1f642.png][Image: 1f642.png]

Almost there!!!

Posted by: Chris Williams - 06 May 2018, 08:19 - Forum: East Anglia - No Replies

Following positive and encouraging conversations with your team on the Club Stand at the NEC Classics in November, I wanted to write to you and formerly extend our invitation for the DeLorean Owners Club to be our headline Guest Marque at our Classic & American Car Day on Bank Holiday Monday 28th May 2018 (see attached)

It was suggested that there are several members within half an hour from our location MK44 1LX in the North Bedfordshire countryside with some of them aware of our events already – obviously I would like to throw the invitation as wide as possible and have as many DeLorean’s attend to make it a spectacular gathering – you are more than welcome to make it one of your club’s official gatherings!

Being our headline Guest Marque has the following benefits:

Free Entry for All DeLorean Owners & Passengers – Usually £5 per show car – You will still receive a £3 voucher towards breakfast at our Kiosk as well as a Commemorative Gift
Priority Prominent Parking at the Front of the Hotel with 2 DeLoreans on the Patio and the rest lining the front of the hotel
Discounted 3 Course Lunch for Members in The Amalfi Suite - £20 per person – Example Menu Attached
Club Logo on our Marketing Flyers & Event Information
You will feature on our Classics & American 2018 Event coverage – check out our Supercar Sunday 2017 - https://youtu.be/8KL4Gxsn3_M

If you would like to discuss the above & attached further or put in touch with the local area events coordinator that would be absolutely great – I am contactable via this email or on 07775 717199. I will require your club logo for our marketing purposes and discuss the rest of the arrangements with the appointed club contact,

Kind Regards
