Cooling fan never stops
#1
The cooling fan on my car is always on. Even if i only turn the ignition to electrics without starting the engine the fans still start. They are noiser than the engine. I guess it would be worse if they didn't start at all!
Can anyone point me in the right direction to resolve this problem?
Thanks

Try disconnecting your otterstat

It's fitted in the ally coolant pipe on the left hand side of the engine compartment running along the chassis arm.

Sometimes they are bridged out and this causes the fans to run all the time, sometimes the otterstat goes short circuit.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.

Thanks for the advice. I got under the car and disconnected the wires to the otterstat. I cleaned the terminals and now it works OK. Fans kick in only wen temp gets past 150degf and when a/c is running. I'll buy a new otterstat and gasket becasue the current one didn't look too healthy.
