ooh, interesting stuff, thanks Dermot, I'll show that to Phill later.
We're watching on Ebay a Pug 406 3.0 V6 manual from 2001 (circa 211hp), currently at £99, but its got a snapped PAS belt (also runs alternator) and its in Weymouth, so couldn't be much further away if it tried. If the belt was an easy roadside fix (which it isn't), I'd drive it back as its only got a few weeks MOT left on it, but trailering it is gonna cost a fortune.
Ho hum......

well, I didn't know if it was 'within the rules' to buy a car that you know isn't driveable then request a free tow truck 250 miles home ......

Patrol does not know if you own it or not, so long as it's road legal is al he/she is concerned about. Who's to say it didn't break down on you when you bought it? That's assuming they have not been out to it before for the same fault!

We let the 406 go, as it went for £150 in the end. No rush, the right car (hopefully closer to home) will come up
eventually.
Anyway, new garage frame arriving this weekend, so gonna be busy building a new home for 6 of our fleet over the next
few months

You can rebuild the PRV with Volvo parts and an EFI kit to a reliable 200hp, or approaching 300hp if you put turbos or a supercharger on. So you have to ask, is swapping in a V8 worth all the hassle, particularly considering that the DMC-12 frame & suspension aren't really suited to more than 300hp anyway.
My DeLorean used this approach; engine is running great, but alas the final part of the build (to make it road legal) is still delayed while I finnish some construction work.

Claire isn't putting a V8 in, and with the work needed on hers, the swap out is probably a better bet. This is something we're going to see more and more as blocks rot and split - "rebuilding" may not always be possible and PRVs are pretty much non-existent now, and the ones that are, are just as old and ready to "pop".

couldn't agree more Dan, is the 'when's the next PRV gonna rot out' worry that's stopping me from putting another one in or rebuilding mine.
Work on the new garage is progressing, so we'll be on the hunt for a donor car in the new year all being well.
A Peugeot 406 V6 manual is looking the most likely victim for my engine swap........ mwuhahahahahaaa!!!!!!

Hmm, I might have found my victim........... this was originally a classified ad at £595, and its only 40 miles from us (most cars that fit the bill are usually 200 miles away lol)

Seems too good to break.... but at least that's a good sign of its history.

Hi all,
nothing to report yet, but we've been narrowing down the age of Pug 406 donor car we need, based on the ignition systems and
wiring set up.
We've got our eye on a 2001 V6 coupe (210hp), its not silly money, but we need to factor in transportation costs to get it from Cheshire
to home if it cannot be driven (MOT/Tax).
Will keep you posted as and when things change, although it may be a time yet as we cant realistically get started until we've built the new
garage - and that's been delayed due to the old adage of 'do a job, make a job'.......
