Re: Universal Steering Joint - cross matchable? - jerzybondov - 24 Apr 2009

Just spoke to Phil at SOC - apparently if I get them the UJs and the shaft they send it off to get refurbed. Takes just over a week and costs £60. Could be a good solution if it's not the SD1 bit that's knacked... Thanks Al!

No probs, maybe a refurbed steering rack is something the club could look at on the spares front etc.

Here's the latest on this saga - the SD1 part isn't the right one, so Chris is sending that back to Rimmer Bros. I've also decided to go down the new part route rather than the refurb route, so it's €143 to Ed for a new lower UJ. Also getting his poly ARB-LCA bushings at the same time (€43). Hopefully the car will drive like it should by Eurotec!

Yes, Ed's got a custom all in one unit too for €280. I considered it but I'm not sure it'll make all that much difference if the rest of your shaft assembly is OK. If you're not careful you can really plunder thousands on these idiotic cars Big Grin

Yes very true ! ... so your other UJ is ok then buddy?

I haven't seen it myself, but I'm taking Chris's advice (as with most other things on the car too!). He thinks the upper is good enough not to warrant changing the whole lot so I'm happy to go with that Big Grin

Just so you know, Ed's poly bushes are the same as the superflex ones you can buy over here.

They'll also sell you the four bushings for the ARB - LCA separately for $45 plus shipping. Misty there is very helpful. Smile

Cool I've ordered that kit, now where's the best place to get new trailing arm bushes? i've seen them for around £100 a set, does that sound like the best price?

I need to do these bushes urgently as my car is scary to drive Shock

The superflex trailing arm bushes are 50 quid each direct from superflex so I don't think you will beat that. New rubber ones are a LOT cheaper though.

Are the new rubber ones ok, or should I just stump up the cash for the poly bushes?

I used new rubber ones as I didn't think having those is poly would be that important. I just used polly for the main links etc as they take all the loading when cornering.
