East Midlands Xmas Meet 2023 - BOOKING MADE!
Posted by: Guinney1971 - 01 Nov 2023, 22:54 - Forum: Midlands - Replies (21)

hi all,

I've not booked anything yet, but do we have any preferences for
location for this years Xmas meet up?

I try and keep it near to a major road or motorway to make access
as easy as possible, but I'm open to suggestions.

Also, we call it the 'East Midlands meet', but literally everyone is welcome
if they fancy a drive out.  DeLorean is optional, this is always more of a
social event then a car meet.

Ideally we need to formulate something in the next week-ten days so
that we can be in with a chance of booking somewhere.

Exclamation New Social Media Secretary!
Posted by: Guinney1971 - 31 Oct 2023, 21:25 - Forum: General Discussions on the DOC / Car / Company / JZD - Replies (19)

Hi all,

The Club has expanded its Social Media presence in recent weeks - although
we will be ditching Twitter/X - personally, for me, its just become a cesspit of
hatred, intolerance, racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc, and I no longer want
to be associated with it, and I will be deleting the Club's Twitter account shortly.

We are now active on:

YouTube
Threads
Facebook
Instagram
TikTok

just search 'DeLorean Owners Club UK' in any of those sites and we'll come up - we
are new on Threads & Instagram, and we are gradually building our content on there.

This gives me the job of announcing a new member to the DOC-UK Team!!

We are delighted to announce that William Bollands has stepped up to be our new
Social Media Secretary and he will be our main contact - I'll help with Instagram and
Threads, and I'll continue to be the main admin on the Facebook page, but that's basically
because I set it up via my own personal Facebook page about 10+yrs ago.

So, thank you to William for stepping up to this, it's great to have a younger member getting
involved and dragging the Club into the modern age lol

There is still a new website being developed, hopefully discussions with the web builder about
that will happen over the NEC Weekend, but that is an ongoing WIP.

Anyone tried 205/70 R14 on the front?
Posted by: Justwatching - 16 Oct 2023, 18:21 - Forum: 6 - Brakes / Wheels / Tyres - Replies (3)

As above.

BF Goodrich make a suitable rear tyre in their T/A Radial range with raised white lettering. Closest thing they're got for the front is 205/70 R14. I probably don't have to change my tyres for several years, so it's a bit academic, but curious if anyone has fitted a slightly larger tyre on the front and if it looks okay?

As an aficionado of both the DMC and Rover R8 range I find myself rather attracted to this! (And wouldn't do it to  a Delorean!)

First Breakdown - Advice / Solutions?
Posted by: lordivanhoe - 11 Sep 2023, 17:43 - Forum: Members Cars - Replies (18)

So..
Drove from High Wycombe to Shropshire this weekend and had a breakdown as I was passing through Birmingham.
Clearly, rule 1 is 'don't drive through Birmingham on the hottest day of the year at five o'clock on a Friday afternoon'..!!
However, this was my first breakdown in the car.

As I was nearly through Birmingham (frustratingly), first I heard dodgy whirring noises, then coming off a roundabout she suddenly completely died after some horrendous electricalish whirring noises.
Pretty sure this was the fuel pump having a mad five minutes.
For at least five minutes, turning the key did nothing at all.
After a few more minutes, turning the key turned over the engine (with horrendous noises) but it wouldn't fire.
After a few more minutes, she started but conked out again after going ten yards.
After another ten minutes or so (maybe 25-30 minutes all told?), during which I was on to my breakdown company, she decided to start and I completed the last 30-ish miles and hour of my journey.

So.  Questions/advice please!
i/ What was going on?  Is this the same as or related to the infamous 'hot start' problem I think I've heard of?  Is it usual for this to also result in a breakdown?  Was it (theorising here) to do with excess heat causing fuel in fuel pipes to vapourise and 'vapour lock'?

ii/ whatever the problem, does anyone have a solution?  should I change my fuel pump?  Any other upgrades/ mods I can do?

Further problem: On the plus side, I had my air con looked at a month or so ago and it now works.  On the downside, when it's hot, the increased load of putting on the air con and the associated fans pushes the running temperature of the engine up!  So when it's really hot, I ironically have to turn off the air con so as to keep the engine cool!!
so, iii/ anyone else had this problem, and did anyone find a radiator / fan / other solution that helps keep all this under control?

My biggest paranoia about running any old car is always to do with overheating.

iv/ Finally, perhaps it's just my imagination, but it seems to me that the warmer the car is, the worse the gearchange gets.  Anyone else have this?

It's been a while, hope everyone's well and sorry for just bringing problems to the party..!!  :-D

Cheers,

Ivanhoe (80sThrowBack...)

  2024 Club Calendar
Posted by: Guinney1971 - 10 Sep 2023, 20:52 - Forum: General Discussions on the DOC / Car / Company / JZD - Replies (17)

It's that time of year when I start badgering people for photos for the Club Calendar.

I've already had some submissions via email, and I've been busy with the camera at
this years Club Event and the Retro Show, but I'm always after nice pics.

So, landscape orientation please, as hi-res as possible, and preferably pics without
lots of people in, just the car(s) and backdrop.

Ideally I need photos in by the end of September, so please email me with what you
have asap.  I need to get it designed and to the printers by mid October, so that they
are printed and ready for the NEC in November.

They are always a limited run of 50, first come first served.

email:  clairew@fab1.net (clairew 'at' fab 'one' dot net)

Thanks in advance!

Thanks- we could give it a go. Using the Invitation system means nobody in the group gets to see a new invitee's name or number, until that person consents to join, so its up to the individual.

Anyway, enough for tonight!!  Smile
Another invitation from the Great Britsh Car Journey near Ambergate in Derbyshire:-

Hi Chis.

Its Iain Fox from Great Northern Classics. Hope you are well.

We are holding an event to show the future of Great Northern Classics and would love a Delorean on display. Could you or anyone you know support the event?

We will have complimentary refreshments and it runs 10am-2pm on Saturday 23rd September.

Kind regards,

Iain
