17020 + New owner on a road trip... |

Hi, and greetings from a random motel somewhere south of Santa Cruz.
I've just bought my first Delorean, 17020.
Found it it Silicon Valley, California, and purchased it yesterday from a great guy named Dan who had cared for it the past 16 years.
It's done 30k miles, it's what I would call a 'street' car, a bit ratty in places with a few dings and scratches - no concours trailer queen that's for sure - But it's a running and weekly-driven California Car - and that's just what I wanted.
The intended final destination is my home - just outside Guildford in Surrey. UK.
So about 4500 miles to go at this point.
I'm with my girlfriend Jenny, who is key part of this process as she is not just along for the ride, she is the organised one in our outfit. You know, the keeper of passports, tickets, phones, keys; The Dispenser of water, Redbull, crisps, the occasional Snickers and more Redbull; The one that looks up the hotels for the coming night, works out where the next gas station is (9 gallon tank? Really is that the best you could do JZD?) The one that takes the scenic photos from the passenger side window; The one that points out the noises I've been trying to ignore the last 40 miles, and the one that asks 'what's that dripping on the ground' when we have parked at the hotel....
We started the journey by hitting the rugged and twisting Pacific Coast Highway, towards San Diego. Hopefully we will reach LA by Tuesday, where I intend to stop to spend my birthday on the following day. Staying in Pasadena, there may be one or two Deloreans around that area on that day.
If our journey all goes to plan, we will ship the car from Brunswick on the east coast in a couple of weeks.
Having owned the car less than 24 hours, I have every faith that any plans we have are pointless.... And we'll just see where this ends up.
All suggestions welcome.
Jimi.

Hello everyone.... yep.. you guessed it, I'm a newbie!
I'm going to explain how I got to this point and why I'm signing up here. Also I will be joining the club shortly.
Ever since I passed my test I've been into Honda's, I've had quite a lot over the years and I always will have one knocking around. But when I got to up to 5 Honda's I thought I should stop lol... well my wife said I need to stop more than anything.
So one day I added up the cars: Civic, S800, S800m, CRX, Accord with all the parts plus other stuff and the total came to just over £20,000! So I thought I should sell up and buy one really good Honda, a Honda that doesn't have tones of rust and lots of metal work that I can't do myself.
I started looking at NSX's but I soon found out that finding an NSX for under 20k is very hard if not impossible!
Then one day I was checking eBay and found the one car I've been wanting my intire life but never thought I could ever afford one. At this point I'd only sold 2 of the Hondas adding up to just shy of 6k.
So that's where my wife and mum helped me out, the hole time me promising that I'd pay them back as soon as the others sell.
So I put a deposit down, I couldn't believe it!!........ A Delorean. 8)
The car is 1981 all original with just over 41k.
The only bad part is it's been painted red
So I'll need some help with how to remove the paint from the metal and the plastics.
I'm not sure how well it runs yet so I'm sure I'll need to replace parts and service it.
I would appreciate help with what I'll need and what will be need to be checked over
Oh and the places to buy them.
I'm picking up the car Tuesday from Southampton docks. 8)
Thanks.
Great site btw, been looking at pages and pages of stuff for ages!

Hire request: London 21st October |

Hi Chris,
We have an unusual request to do a ‘Back to the Future’ style stunt in London on Wednesday for a client who makes something close to hoverboards. The DeLorean would sit in a box with a countdown clock, and then when it reaches zero there would be a reveal and the box opens and the DeLorean drives out a few metres, as do some people on hoverboards. There may also be a short driving element to deliver a petition. We would need it for a few hours only, and would pay a good price for rent and expenses getting here, upwards of £600.
I do appreciate that this is late notice and many are booked up, but the client is very enthusiastic. It should be great fun if we can do it, but obviously time is short. If anyone comes forward please do put them in touch.
Best wishes –
Patrick

So, who wishes to fess up for allowing a DeLorean to be 'found' on tonight's episode of Storage Hunters UK? I had a phone call from a mate who got very over exited to tell me they had found a car in a shipping container and it was on now so had to turn over to watch it. Don't know much about the show but I'm guessing it's all a bit staged (though I'm happy to be corrected)

Urgent Hire Request 17th Oct London SW19 |

Hi there.
To cut a long story short, I’m trying to help organise a significant birthday party for my wife and 2 of her friends, all of whom will be enjoying birthdays at about the same time in mid-October, celebrating their 40ths (or similar). As they’re film buffs they’ve decided to make it a Back to the Future-themed affair, due to the date which the films’ protagonists go forward to in the second film (21st October 2015, my wife’s birthday) and so the venue is being decorated inside to reflect scenes from the films (Enchantment Under the Sea Ball etc).
The most memorable contribution I feel I could make would be to stun the arriving guests by having a DeLorean parked outside the venue (complete with stage smoke and lights). That would make the party right from the off. As you’ve guessed, I was wondering if there is anyone in your club who is within range of Southwest London and would consider letting me hire their car, even for just a couple of hours.
The date is next Saturday (!), the 17th of October, time 7pm-11pm, venue the Old Rutlishians Rugby Club, Poplar Road, Merton Park, London SW19 3JS, but even an appearance from, say, 6:30-8:30pm would be amazing to greet guests. They have a private car park in front of the clubhouse and my idea would be to park it there, no driving, for show only. I have been trying to locate one for hire but they are hard to come by and very expensive, in part due to the distance they have to be transported but also obviously the timing. We don’t have a lot of money but were hoping something in the region of £300 might tempt you. We would, of course, transport it in any manner you prefer, be it hire a flat-bed transporter, one of us take out insurance and drive it or pay you for your time and inconvenience to deliver it yourself (please come to the party as well!). Any other necessary insurance I’d be happy to arrange.
I do apologise for the unusual request and means of contact but if I fail to find a DeLorean I shall be building one out of hardboard this weekend!
Many thanks.
