I don’t think so Claire. She may be ready, but then it depends on how long DVLA take for the documents to come back to me for registration.

Ok, so it’s been a little while...... unfortunately I was admitted to hospital last week, which put a short hold on the work on 11477...

Today though.........

1. New fuel sender fitted. I now have a fuel gauge and fuel light!!
Yay

2. Fog light mod now fitted and working. 

3. Engine oil and filter changed.

4. Gear box oil changed.

And boy am I glad I changed the gearbox oil. It was rather black and also I don’t think there was enough oil in there - well it seemed like very little came out.

I got just about 3 litres back into the box, so I guess there was still half a litre or so in there.

There aren’t really any pics, but here’s a pic of the gear oil and 2 videos after the oil changes.....

Oh !!! AND, and....... the retractable aerial is now operational!!!
And I love it!!! Big Grin

Great progress, I wonder if that was factory original gear oil    Undecided 

looks like you got a few fiddly jobs done out of the way. 

My fuel gauge stopped working on Sunday, will get in there to see if it needs replacing too.

I took my fuel sender out once when it was working erratically ....cleaned it up a bit and it has worked fine for a last couple years!

Stu - it may well be the factory gear oil! Either way, sorted now Smile

And yes, I did clean up the contacts for the original fuel sender originally and that gave me some life on the gauge - but then it started behaving erratically, so I replaced it with a DeLorean Europe version. Now all good.
Definately clean it up first though before shelling the £100 for a new one.

Still want to get that damn temperature gauge reading. It’s stuck on 100f
I’ve cleaned the contacts on the bulk head - I may try nudging the needle next...... I really don’t fancy changing the sender, looks a nightmare. (I do have a new one on standby though)

Well - I still have no temp gauge Sad
I replaced the temp sender last weekend and hoped when I took the 30 mile round trip to the MOT I’d see some movement... but nothing.
The fans are kicking in and keeping her cool.... but it makes me nervous not seeing any indication.

I could get my hand up behind the binnacle and could get the needle to move slightly - so I assume it’s not stuck.
There is a new temp sender with new spade connector..... all connections cleaned at bulk head......

Sooooo what next? Must be a loose connection somewhere....
This temp gauge is frustrating!!!

When the car is off, the gauge sits slightly above the 100f mark. When on, it pops down to bang on 100f......

I was just reading on here that a few guys had a similar issue a few years ago.

Chris W mentions trying to flick the needle off the bottom of the gauge as it may be stuck.
And to do this unscrew the trip ?
Does it just unscrew? Or pull out?

I can give this ago this coming Saturday then. If all I achieve next week is to get that working, I’d be over the moon.

Sender....gauge... or more probably a wiring fault...possibly a dodgy connector?  possibly in the engine bay??   Keep testing and looking. Good Luck.    I agree Tris...this is the one gauge you NEED to be working on a DeLorean!

So you can trace out the wiring from the sender to the gauge:

The engine temperature sender has a green/blue stripe wire plugged on to it. (gnd is via the cylinder head)
This goes to the smallest white bulkhead connector underneath the yellow bulkhead connector in the engine bay. The pin on the left hand side, third up from the bottom.
On the other side of the bulkhead inside the pontoon, this connection goes all the way up to the binnacle directly into the 12-pin connector (pin 11) which connect to the gauge inside the instrument panel.

Test each leg of the signal's journey to the gauge via this route and then whilst the binnacle is off, you can check the gauge functionality properly too.
