Delorean write-up in Septembers "Classic and Sports Car"
#1
Might of been mentioned but there is a 3 page feature on old employees and the twin-turbo'd engine.
It says that, "Michael Hickey (owner) says the standard car/engine is good for 168bhp"
How do you get this power? What have you got to do?
Article just mentions removing Cats. Is it just urban myth?

Well in a way, but it's not a standard engine. Looks standard but you need to fit all Volvo spec pistons/cams/fuelling/performance exhaust and you can get to that (engine BHP) I think I had mine at 155 at a Euro event many years ago. I then fitted a performance exhaust and it added another 5hp. The test was done again at another location prior to/and after fitting the performance exhaust. The cat had been removed before along with all the Volvo stuff fitted.
So yes you can get close to that but it depends on if you look at it as standard! I suppose it was standard in the Volvo.

Not that I am about to but couldn't you just implant the Volvo V6 engine?
Dump all the Delorean management stuff and Use the Volvo ECU?
Anyone done this? Known Project thread?

You still have to change a fair bit from a Volvo engine to get it to fit: sump/sandwich plate/alternator/oil pressure stuff + lots of little bits and bobs. Not difficult to do and lots have people have, usually due to block rot!
The engine is still essentially the same as is the ECU
