I bought my car from them - a pleasure to work with, if I'm honest. I don't know where they get their cars from but they seem to get some good(ish) project cars in.

Non runner, that was owned by someone who fitted that headlight. I'd say think carefully.

The BH car club has sold some very rough Deloreans in the past. They have sold what amounts to well stocked parts cars to a lot of unsuspecting customers. Have you seen the hulk they are selling that doesn't even have a frame? No suspension, no nothing underneath. According to them all you need is an engine and transmission and you got yourself a running driving Delorean! Take a look and see if you agree. I would be suspicious of anything they sell no matter how good it looks. If they think this is a good resto project then I don't take anything they have to say about any Delorean seriously.

I agree with you on that particular car….no chassis frame indeed…a load of junk.

But, I think yesterdays car was a real steal.

Several of our members have dealt with this seller before and as far as I know were happy enough with the outcome.

lets put it this way, If I was in the UK looking for a car, i'd be inconstant touch with them asking to know what they had in the pipe-line.

Yesterdays car was a black interior Auto, not everyones first choice perhaps, but even as a non-runner, i'd have bought it.

Over the years I have bought 4 cars as non-runners and have had no problems getting them sorted.

Just my opinion of course.

There is little on that car of value to anyone... The only thing I can think of it being any use for, while keeping it complete, is a promotional display for a business or something along them lines. Maybe Darnell's junk yard...

And the fable that pictures don't do the car justice is nonsence. 99% of deloreans look good in photos, if they don't they are probably a bag of tripe to begin with...

Buy cheap but twice they say. The state's are only selling cars to the UK because of their demand and ability to get more than what they are worth to their own people. If we thought we could make triple the money on any second hand car to some unsuspecting soul overseas with no comeback, we'd all be doing it... And that's what these companies like BHCC are doing...

"Oh it's ok, I will give you a few extra dollars for your clapped out delorean sir, I can sell it in the UK for 10 times more than its worth over here!"

We are our own worst enemy if we can't see what's happening here...

Hold on a second - do you know them? You're making a very sweeping statement there. My car came from them, was £8k and change and is a complete car. It might even run if I can find the time to clean the tank and buy a battery.

Sure, the frameless car is a mess, but there are enough pictures there for anyone to make their own mind up about buying it (and no one will!). They've been flat, blunt and honest with me and I'm a happy customer.

It isn't always a scam, you know.

Referring to the frameless car Dan, sure there are exceptions out there.
You are a past delorean owner, you know what to look for...

But some people so desperate to get on the delorean ladder could easily be fooled into thinking a car is a bargain when clearly it's not.

Companies are there clearly to take advantage of people, sometimes even if it's a little deceitful.

There's 2 words that come to mind...

That's business!

To be fair to BHCC they do always describe the cars very accurately and (though never done so myself) are by all accounts very good to deal with, and describe the vehicles honestly and accurately. I know of at least 10 that have come to the UK via them and all have been 'properly' described. Yes some are at the lower end painted with lots of damage on them, but again properly described. At the end of the day it's no different to buying any 30yr old car DeLorean or otherwise, 'buyer beware' and all that!

Done a compression test before you bought did you?

I know it's not always a scam, but given their appraisal on what it would take to get the car they have for sale running, I would say they either don't have a clue or are misrepresenting their product and counting on the naivety of the customer....either way I wouldn't trust them and that's exactly what you are doing when buying sight unseen over the internet. Who you place your trust in is pretty important in this situation.

I have said this before, there is plenty of money to be made on selling Deloreans, and these guys have it down pat. You don't sell prime examples, you sell non-running piles of crap to pie in the sky dreamers that don't even know enough to have someone look at the car, do a simple compression test and/or pressure test the coolant system of a non runner before throwing down big money for their "easy" resto project. Most of these cars have been sitting not years but maybe decades with the same coolant in the system. Ever seen what old coolant can do to an aluminum engine? The thing is a fellow could in fact get a car running with a little help and little money, (If the fuel distributer and injectors, and warm up regulator, and computer, and fuel pump, RPM relay, thermo-time, vacuum system are all working), only to soon discover a head gasket leak, block rot, or something worse like a rod bearing.

It's always a gamble, especially with non running DeLoreans. Buying sight unseen is like walking into a casino to play blackjack without even knowing basic strategy. If you want to deal with these guys I don't care one way or the other. If you bought and you are happy, good for you, but based on what they represent as "easy restos", I would advise against dealing with them sight unseen.

I agree totally Michael...

Seems the chassis is always the first thing people look for in a car... And rightly so to a degree.

There's so much more to go wrong that can't be spoken in pictures, but what you said has basically echoed what I said.

It's always an assumption that with a tank clean out, New UK headlights and a bucket of suds will get you a bargain delorean here in the UK....

If you want to throw a couple of grand away on import duties rather than on an honest UK car, then that's personal preference. I'm sure if I was stinking rich, I'd import every delorean that came up for sale... Except when you get it back into the UK and weigh it up, would there be any profit in it any more now we are becoming more populated with USA cars... ?

It must be a good thing from your point of view though Michael... Deloreans are becoming less therefore your car is becoming more rare. :-)

If you are talking about Joe Bloggs, then sure - but how many people just risk buying DeLoreans these days? Come to think of it, would you or anyone you know buy anything that's 30+ years old for that kind of money? Perhaps there are a sea of wishers out there that would - I don't know, I'm not one of them. I DO know what I'm looking at. This is my third and I've never lost a penny on DeLoreans so far.

If the engine was toast in my car, I'd not cry a river. I couldn't care less to be honest with you. The PRV is hardly an M3's v8 now is it? But again, eyes open, I know what I bought. I bought a project (and not an easy one, whether they said so or not. I know different.)

Separating good from bad is hard, yes. But I would suggest that the average reader on here also knows at least the basics about risking money on ancient classic cars. Perhaps go read up on E-Types or classic DB Aston Martins. Now THERE you can buy a mint car that is just a pile of rust Wink

So, yes. Be warned. Buying a DeLorean is always a risky proposition. Buying a house is. Buying a 4 year old 911 can cost you £10k at the tip of a hat. If you know what you're buying, you can be a little happy if you want to be.

Now I'm going to go play with MY DeLorean that I'm happy as Larry with. Big Grin

PS> Michael you are spot on - your attitude is what everyone should go in with, and then be proven wrong. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that some of us are probably not completely blind to the work coming!
