Hi.
Its a long shot, as Dave Howarth has explained...but..
Does anyone have any spare parts from the ignition switch system?
In particular, the small aluminium extender that sits between the back
of the barrel and the ignition switch itself?
This must have been lost when Glen kindly removed my barrel, after my key
broke off in the ignition.
Ive looked everywhere for it, and apparently they are not on any stock list.
You can buy a new barrel, a new switch, new keys, but not the little piece that
goes in between.
Even if I could borrow one, I may be able to get some copied and made up. They cant be
that hard to make.
PS. Yes, I know I have missing graphics. Im in the middle of changing Internet Service Providers.

Paul, just a thought mate, are the lock assemblies similar to anything else of the same vintage?
Just thinking aloud, cos I know the door locks are British Leyland IIRC, so I'm wondering if a
trawl round a scrapyard may yield the bits you need?
Oh, btw, do you know you've got missing graphics?

As far as I know Claire the piece im looking for is custom made
for the DeLorean, as the D's are the only cars to use this
combination of barrel and switch.
I could be wrong. But thats what ive been lead to believe.
Dave howarth had 5 in his possesion after he aquired some about 5
years ago. He's sold them at the rate of 1 a year, and I missed the
last one a few months ago which is a shame. But ill certainly check
in the local scrapyard. Any particular Leyland car I should look for?
Thanks Claire.

well I've been lead to believe that that door locks are Metro, so I guess anything BL from
around that time - Mini/Metro/Maestro/Montego would be a starting point - mind you, these
cars are getting increasingly rare and I cant remember the last time I saw one in Loom's
scrappy in Derby.
Have a word with Rich Hanlon, he's into his BL stuff and has an Allegro.........

Tis true.
Ive not seen a Leyland motor in years either.
In fact, the last one I saw WAS an Allegro about 20 Years ago.
Even then, it was a rot box.
Im sure they made them from painted iron oxide.
While I think on, can you give RichH a ring on my behalf.
I dont have his number, and he said he'd get back to me after the
last meet. Website stuff, car bits etc etc.
Ask him if I can have his phone number and postal address
as I need to post something out to him too.
Thanks Claire (Hope you and bump are ok!)

I would do Martin, but ive just had my barrel refurbed to the tune of £50 so buying another barrel is a bit of a waste.
All im needing is that Aluminium piece which Im hoping to copy.

So she's gone to bed early cos she's tired! pffff!
Anyone would think the Pampering sessions were in Helmand Province!

They're definitely different from the Allegro and Maxi key-switches, by the way.
Not sure about the newer stuff but Martin's tip about the SD1 is probably right. Metros are the easiest to find of all those listed but I've raided quite a few of them for door locks and so-on, over the years, and can't say I've ever noticed the ignition barrel being the same as the D. They key blank is a Volvo one, of course - worth trying old Volvo's maybe? No idea, just a guess...
PS - Took the Allegro to Ikea last night as it happens and came back with an enormous wardrobe on the roof-rack!
