turbo
#1
Im thinking my bae turbo needs refurbished- here in Aberdeen i cant find anywhere suitable to do it. Would it be foolish to attempt it myself?(inquisitive novice) or can i send it somewhere down in Englandshire? or could a machinist or engineering workshop do it?

thanks chris, well unfortunatly essex turbos dont list the turbo because it was discontinued in 1990 i am taking it down there next week to see if they can rebuild it, but chances are they wont be able to do it.

so the hunt is on for a t2 which should get rid of the lag and cost half the price of the monster in these bae kits, my good friend mr monk has kindley offered to machine a plate to join the two together, and oil feed pipes are not a problem there is a place that makes them up near me i will let you know cheers tony TT

Why dont you get a T32 from a Renault 25 engine?

Internal wastegate so single outlet, and are easier to come by.

I think I might know where there are some going spare.

hi

surely the bae is rebuildable, after all the technology is pretty simple.

are turbo technics still going?

i found a few links on yahoo

you could do with a small back street workshop specialist.

t32 may fit but the main problem is the manifold, it has an external wastegate, i may be able to get it done but it means using the old compressor wheel which doesnt bother me and essex turbos are well known by all the cosworth boys, and even better they may do cash, and as i say cash is king  any other ideas much apreciated luv TT

quick update, turbo went in on friday but there is no chance of replacing the compressor blades, only the bearings and seals may be able to be done, there will also be no warranty on the turbo which means a rebuild could be around £200 TT

I think they were used on propeller aeroplane engines !

The turbos are RayJay's but I am not sure if you can get parts for them over here. I think there is a place in california but that could work out expensive compared to an off the shelf Garrett and a flange mod.

I did try to search this out myself, however it's not something we deal in. Most engines of this age in light aircraft ran on Avgas and used the turbos to increse the pressure (as I understand it) in the rotary engines. now most have been converted to jet A1 and even the light aircaft are using Diesel, as Avgas is not the most stable of fuel. I know this does not help, but thought I would chirp in :?
