I would imagine it is difficult to get the right bonnet for it, am I right?

Not so much difficult..but very expensive ... £1500 or so i saw one at last...

It opens many doors but also creates more obstacles on front of you is what I have found. It doesn't change you as much as it does the people around you.

More info on Way to Cain's import

The car has 39K miles.

Things wrong with the car or the car needs:

Bad fuel sending unit
tear in driver's seat left shoulder
cracked dash (covered with a dashmat)
rearview mirror has a crack
headliner in center sagging
steering column bushing
small dent in T-panel
Needs new idle speed motor (manually idled right now)
needs freon charged (car will come with 7 cans of freeze 12 to charge it)
needs a new finisher plate on the T-Panel (unnoticeable)
Could use some fresh paint on front fascia.
needs a new angle drive

Alright so I have looked at it and for what Cains car would need would cost £3k for parts, £8.2k for the car, £811 for shipping, £1.5k import tax so all in £13.5k.

The car in Gullwings is £4.2k, shipping £570, £1.5k import tax. My question is, would £7k go far in sorting this car out? Bear in mind it needs the engine rebuilt and interior sorted. I am not afraid to do the work myself and there is a pretty big support network around me as well.

Tricky, the cheaper one could be a lot worse than reported. If it doesnt even run then no one can know the condition of gearbox, clutch etc,
I imported mine from the US because it was different, but it was not my first choice,that was one already restored by Phil Peters, but I was too slow on that one.Knowing what I know now if I was to go for a standard one Id buy one already in the UK and one you KNOW to be good, there are some beauty,s out there,

I can spend 20k on a good car in the UK or my other option is spending 17k importing 2 cars (1 driving 1 not) then spend an estimated 10k making them driveable and roadworthy.

Hmmm. Decisions, decisions.

Hi,

My gut feeling is walk away from option 1. Sad

Car 2 has a good vibe from the photo's, and all the problems you list are pretty normal.
Price is fair, and I'd expect that if your able to lift a spanner yourself you'd have a really good car after about a £2K spend.

Don't worry too much about the bonnet, the authenticity police are sympathetic, it's just good to have a roadworhy car. You can change it later on if you so desire, and sure enough someone will want your old one £££££'s

My story is that my family have a bit of money and I have got bored of my Mk 6 Escort project after many modifications in engine and body. I seen a 70's Pontiac Firebird V8 for sale. I asked my Dad for it and he said "Why not get a Delorean". I have read JZD's autobiography and being from Lisburn know a lot who worked in the factory and a bit about them. So here I am looking for my first purchase! Problem now is I think I have ignited a fire within my Dad to owning one as well although he hasn't admitted it yet. So we are in London to view a Delorean and he and his wife are at "The Sound of Music" after a meal in some restaurant overlooking Trafalgar Square.

I will enjoy driving a Delorean but also the challenge of resurrecting one. Importing may give me the option of both.
