What it is , Dan is following the advice given on that page
and it is incorrect Cry
it says you pay VAT on shipping and costs, and only 10 % on the car cost,
but it is wrong info

I see, cheers for this info. At least I know the facts now Smile

So If you paid the 10% you would be expected to pay another 17.5% as well, so you'd be be paying 2 lots of tax on the same thing!! How do they get away with that!!

DONT ASK ME  I DIDNT VOTE THEM IN

the theory goes something like this,
you sent money out of the country and made our poor island poorer,
and the americans richer, so to compensate you pay more tax to redress the balance, I still dont see how it makes it even, the money you pay in tax came from a UK bank to pay the UK
seems fair Shock

Hi Allen,

I hope there was nothing valuable in the car, CD player, etc - as there seems to be a spate of thefts from cars during shipping lately.

Fingers crossed for you...

Well yeah there is, but he has tried to hide most of it in the .......
best not say, but he removed the "attractive " bits and hid them,it is being shipped in a container so that should stop bits "dropping off" on ship

yeah,

I think part of it is that theoretically (although it isn't the case) you could have bought the car from the UK, but didn't it could be the case that UK business was missing out on your custom because you went abroad to buy the car....

or something like that. I suppose we shouldn't feel too glum by the fact we have one of the lowest rates of VAT in europe (doubt it'll change any time soon.) ....even though we pay 10% duty on it :? weird.
