 Why smash up what appears to be a really good example of a rare A610 ?
Beginning to think Clarkson is losing it ...

I watched the whole DVD, I can't see a DeLorean!? Am I missing out something?

Hi John,
If you read through the RAOC forum discussion, the DeLorean comment is on there. The RAOC are quite rightly up in arms about JC smashing up a concours Alpine, and the following comment was made on the thread discussing Clarkson smashing the Alpine up on the RAOC Forum:
*snip* "I might not own a GTA et al, but that vid still makes me feel sick. I'd rather see a DeLorean smashed up - after all, there're thousands of those, and plenty in poor shape." *snip*
We all remember the uproar when Monster Garage trashed a DeLorean! Personally, I dont like to see cars destroyed in such a way for entertainment, even cars like the humble Allegro has its fans, and I'm sure they would be just as upset if one was deliberately smashed up for 'entertainment' purposes.

"Would rather see", not "would like to see". I don't see the problem here.

I bet even this type of car has some sort of fan base (ThoughI find it very unlikely)
It makes for good entertainment, but Claire you are right..... Its gotta upset some people.

And Rob has a good point, it was "rather see" over "would like to see"

Well I agree, there was an episode of Top Gear where they had 3 old sports cars which they did a 'road trip' on and basically just hammered them to death... I didnt find that entertainment either ...

Good entertainment for some people I meant, its not everybody's dream to see a car hammered to death. I like to stay neutral to these sort of things, everybody's different, and its good to be able to adapt to whichever way the ball rolls.

The above link shows Clarkson's little segment of the DVD that was supposed to justify the destruction of this fine example!
For a larger piece see this:-

The above link states the Venturi is rubbish and that he paid £8250 for the A610 that he proceeded to destroy…

What a shame, no 55k mile, concours car should have endured a demise such as this!
The below is taken from the Renault forum
Having now collected the engine and gearbox, I can prvide the "full story" of the car's demise...
The chap selling it was part of a company who were enlisted to add remote control to the three cars in the video (G-wizz, Rover and the 610). In the wide shots of the 610 tonking about, he was driving, not clarkson. It was part of the remote steering control that locked on the steering column, not the steering lock.
The crash took place in 3rd at about 50mph. Because one of the CV joints seperated, there wasn't a massive shock to the gearbox and the engine was still running for a few seconds after the crash.
He was given the task of hauling the carcasses away and told to do with them what he liked. He was stunned at the response to the engine and box, but while he was on holiday, the car was mistakenly scrapped by the farmer on whose land he hires a barn - hence the loss of everything but the rear lights, engine and interior.
He also gave me the subframe and rear hubs - the subframe is undamaged amazingly. He also had a couple of offers after the auction of up to £5k to gazump the buyer but refused them.
Both engine and box are in fantastic condition.
The GWizz is being repaired.
