Quick update:
It's been a year since the car was cosmetically completed but, as is the case for many of us, free time is a fleeting concept these days.
Over the past year, I've had to replace the steering wheel and add a rear view mirror (and cargo net!), but I've yet to replace the gear knob (which is in a box, in the car... ). I've had to replace the rear light boards, bulbs and connectivity - and then test it and keep it fixed (which I hope is the case). I've had to replace the handbrake switch and.. well, the light now works, so shh. The biggest issue has been the clutch, which now works. I think.
A few weeks ago a friend helped me bleed it for a couple of hours and after a brief but very real drive around the block, I think I can give it a pass for now. I suspect I'll still replace the master cylinder as the bite is too low for me to be comfortable driving it far, but it's done for now.
However, during the drive we noticed that the speedo was counting miles but not showing speed. Yes, I finally found something that can't easily be replaced - the speedo!
After a fair amount of chasing specialists, it went to PJ and I should now have a working speedo. That said, on refitting I noticed several dash bulbs were intermittant, and low and behold, the plastic PCB has degraded and split in a few places, so a new one is on the way.
With that replaced (hopefully soon) and better weather probably/maybe coming, I should only need the front wheels aligning (it crabs a bit where I know they're only eye-aligned) and maybe that'll be that - whilst I work on the list of other "nice to haves" I'll be sorting when it has a few miles under it.
