VIN#6126 Chassis restoration
(28 Apr 2021, 23:54)Rich Hanlon Wrote: Not to worry - and hope all is well!

Yes, there are two Rich H's in DeLorean circles living within 8 miles of each other. My own car was last on the road in 2015. Rich's has always been on the road for 6 months each year all the way through as far as I know. I'm lucky to have the club tech advisor so close by.

My own car 6126 in front with Rich Hutchinson's 1274 behind at my In-laws’ house in Northern Ireland on our way to Eurofest 2006.

Ah thats where my confusion must have come from apart from life issues (self discovery, loss of people ect.), but that is very lucky to have the resident tech guy nearby.

And here they are together again today, as Rich called in to pick up some hardware he had kindly lent me.

First time my DeLorean has been with a sibling for almost exactly 10 years I think. (Eurofest 2011).

Same cars, different plates, same owners (only 15 years older this time...  Big Grin )

I also had my tracking done today too. It was remarkably close considering that it was only set up by eye! Need some half- thickness shims for the rear.

They look lovely.....its a pity AXI 1699/AXI 881 cant join them yet.

Andrew (mostly) and I are working on my fuel system. Although the car starts and runs...its very rich......pressure gauges deployed and injectors squirting into bottles everywhere....still tracking the problem / s.......all I can do is faff about with other jobs.....after 2 years, i'm itching to finally get it on the road. Sad.

Well done again Richards....

Not far off now though Chris. Looks like those seats are going to be super soft!

I'm afraid I've never had to faff about with the control pressure but it sounds like you have the best guys on the case!

Thanks Richard...its looking increasing likely that MGJ suffered at the hands on the VW specialist who got it running 20 odd years ago.

It has a touch of the "Evil Edna's"........one of Andrew cars from years ago. Basically two of the fuel pipes had been incorrectly fitted and although the car ran....it was awful....everything possible had been adjusted to make it run...and it did after a fashion. Andrew discovered the problem after many many hours of looking. Once sorted his car ran lovely...i'm hoping for the same thing shortly.

Evil Edna, there's a blast from the past.

With Covid restrictions easing, we might have to see if the Dynamic Duo of the two Richards
are up for getting down and dirty on #2292 with us at some point Wink

Excellent news Chris, well done indeed. Glad you were able to get to the bottom of the fuelling issue. It sounded fine the other night. A very well deserved pass  Big Grin

So this is likely to be the last post of any significance from me in this thread. A number of you have now seen my car post- restoration and apart from a few relatively trivial bits I'm now really happy with it.

So it struck me that whenever you are describing something to someone, within moments you find yourself scrolling down old photos in your phone.

So I thought I'd get a photo book of my restoration made. It was steep at about £90 but I'm happy with the finish and I can take it places to show anyone what I'm rabbiting about.

It's 114 pages in total ranging from before, through the worst parts, and after, including my recent London BTTF trip.

Anyway, an extravagance perhaps but a lasting momento of the work done.

I did the same thing when we built the new garage, I got mine made via Vistaprint. They
aren't cheap, but they make a great reference point.

Tax free from today!! Happy days.

That should offset a small proportion of the fuel costs anyway!!

Hopefully a little bit yeah. I've not been in any rush to submit my stuff yet. Roads still salty and still freezing outside, and got other projects on the go right now. Maybe in another few weeks time I'll go apply myself. Looking very much forward to the availability of adhoc trips out in the D' from that point forward, even more than the obvious savings from free vehicle tax. I'm also looking forward to not being held over a barrel for when I must do an MOT check. I'll get one done at my leisure and only if I feel I'd be happier getting a 3rd party opinion on something (unless it affects my insurance of course. If it does, then I'll still get one every year).
