thought you might find this interesting

i went to the jaguar classics auction at Bicester 3 months ago or so....and was surprised (and anoyed) to see so many dealers crawling over the place, really out to make a quick buck.

Gradually a few appearing on ebay...

a yellow Allegro went for around £1800+commission, only to appear on ebay for about £4400.

there is currently a princess on ebay at £4400, i saw i sell for about £1700

but......see this listing

i saw that go for £2200 yes £2200....can you believe someone now thinks its worth nearly £11 grand (surely will not get anywhere near)

my point is, are others annoyed at dealers wanting to make money, where as the likes of us classic owners i see it are not interested really what the car is worth.

they are spoiling the market, where it goes beyond enthusiasts and into collectors for profit...i would like a MK2 escort, but prices even for a decent 1.3L are silly, let along an RS2000.

even MK1 XR2's one or two over twenty grand.

surely the bubble will burst, just like bitcoin?

what's every ones thoughts?.

Hi Steve, car dealers are like any other dealers. Some are more greedy than others. If a dealer advertises something for 'daft money' and a daft person 'over-pays' then thats their problem.

My books have been on eBay and Amazon for about £50- 75 for the last couple of years. Someone occasionally puts one on Amazon for about £275 sometimes they sell!   That is the only negative feedback I've ever had.....'Good book but ridiculously  expensive' ...or words to that effect.

I had a similar conversation for a few years at the NEC. Problem is the people who have serious money to invest (ChrisP )!! are looking at places to invest it. Apparently classic Guitars/wine and cars are where they are putting the money.
Unlike the rest of us these investors prefer to go to dealers so the dealers supply the product = supply and demand I suppose.

Hi Steve, 
             Never buy something as a investment except maybe property. 
All other “investments” only buy it if you like it. Don’t think you will make money.

 When I started my first full time job there were two things I really wanted. A Doxa Sub 300T Professional dive watch and a DeLorean. Both these things have proved over the best part of 20 years to be good investments. I put this down to luck or pure skill   

However I remember buying classic car magazines as a teenager around the time the classic car market crashed. Stuff was going for crazy money before the crash. I seem to remember D’s we’re going for £50k. 
Always worth learning from past events.

Right now, movie props are where a *lot* of money is. Which is why I keep something from every job I do...
