Temp gauge - is this the sender??
#1
Whilst reading lots of threads about the temp sender on the passenger side of the engine, and also a few reference shots, I thought I’d easily be able to locate the temperature sender and check the connection.....

However, whilst I think I found it..... it looks nothing like the examples I’ve seen. It has a rubber cover over the end..... maybe this is it? Perhaps someone in the know could confirm for me?

This is looking into the engine bay from the passenger side of the car.
I see the single light green cable going in, and it seems to go to a metal screw in unit into the engine.

Cant really tell from the angle of that picture, but this one is from Dan's resto:

But it's the small round hex headed sender to the L/H head (looking at the pic) just to the right of the core plug. If that makes sense!

Thanks Chris,

I had chance tonight to recheck and the one in my pic is in the exact location in the pic of yours.

What are your thoughts on my version? Seem totally different to all the ones I’ve seen in reference shots.

It's difficult to tell from the picture, perhaps it has some form of rubber boot over it? Not sure that was OE though?

that's like "Where's Wally" :-)

Tris - give me a better photo for reference - I'm out the garage tomorrow and will take some pictures - I think I know to where Chris is referring?

Tris - I'll take some photos tomorrow - I think I know where Chris is referring -In the meantime, how about you check the Delorean wiring diagram - and see what colour the wire is - where it is going to and do a continuity test on it? (or get Dad to do it :-) )

As we say in Wales it's just by ere!

Cheers both,

I’ve definately got the right place - checked with a few pics I found on t’interwebs.

I’ll post a better detailed area shot when I’m back at the car.

Tris

Quick follow up..... the wire is light green in colour, so I’m pretty sure it’s the one.
The rubber boot has thrown me as I was expecting to see an exposed threaded end.

Tris - you still after a pic - sorry, this slipped my mind - I can easily take one tonight if you want?

I'll swop you for a photo of the hood release bracket under the driverside dash :-)

Be great to see mate. I did take a video of mine to show the location I believe it to be.
And as I mentioned - it looks so different to everyone’s temp sensor!

And no probs I can sort you that pic of the hood release. (Or trunk release??)
I’m back with the car tomorrow evening.

Here’s the vid

That's the one, as shown in the pic I posted. It may be just how they were as OE. If you look at Dans pic it's very much a rounded connection as opposed to say a spade connector.

Thanks Chris - I thought it had to be based on the pic. If it’s OE, then I guess it needs replacing!
The gauge just sits at the start (100) and doesn’t budge.
(Well it sits slightly above, then when ignition goes on, it moves back to the very start. Such a small movement though.)

Hi tris, check the connection to the sensor before replacing just incase its loose, corroded or broken wire.

Cheers Stu.

That was the plan - but that rubber cover is a pain in the backside lol.

I’ll get there. Replaced the hood release last night and added a backup cable.
And I’m just finishing up protecting underneath.
All solid under there - just needs TLC.
