Hi Folks, anyone out there got a spare plug lead I could borrow/purchase car seems to have a slight misfire so just going through the process of replacing parts.

Hi, I don't have any leads spare but recently my DMC developed a sight misfire on tickover, the leads are only a few years old so I disregarded a fault on them-in the dark with the engine running a spark could be seen jumping from the lead that passes closest to the fuel injection manifold-inspection showed a split in the rubber boot,moisture was getting in overnight causing lumpy idle until it had warmed up. Worth a look ??

I do have some old ones, that your welcome to try if you wish. There not OE as they came from an old Volvo but your welcome to them if you wish to try. However.... if your faffing around then I would recommend that you just change the leads/cap and rotor arm in one go (inc the coil lead) for the price it's just as easy.

Chris, thanks for your reply not really convinced it is the plugs or leads I have one plug that seems to be " oiling up " more than the others.  Have changed the plug ( no difference ) so just want to rule out the plug lead, might end up as you suggest changing the whole lot. In the meantime if you could send me one of your old plug leads that would be great, address below, how can I refund the postage to you Chris.

Chris,
       Plug lead arrived this morning ( thank you ) fitted it and unfortunately no change in the running of the engine still a slight misfire, might have to go down the route of fitting new plugs, plug leads and distributor cap.  Is there an easy way to change the distributor cap I assume I will have to remove the engine cover and tailgate to get at the cap.

Try the King lead particularly if it's the original red one, I had the same issue and that turned out to be the fault. Worse when warm. You can just about change the cap in situ as I have done but is easier to remove the fuel metering head to access it.

What he said! If you remove the hex head screws holding the metering head to the inlet manifold you can carefully lift the metering head etc up a bit. You need to be carefully re-fitting a new dizzy cap as they have a very small notch that needs to be aligned on the dizzy.
Also worth checking you have the right spark plugs as these can have an impact on how the car runs, they don't like odd plugs, sounds daft I know!

Thanks guys for the advice what type of plug are you using currently I have NGK BP6EFS they have been in the car now for a number of years so will change them for new ones considering Chris's remark.  Keen to get the car up and ready for the beginning of April, at that point will tax it for six months.

I think the recommended plug is still Bosch HR6DC, though if yours were ok before chances are they probably still are. It may be worth checking your injector as well. These can be moved to any location so if any of your other trials don't work this may be worth a try also.

Folks replaced the plug leads and plugs, dist cap and rotor arm and the engine is now running as it should.  There was a small crack in the dist. cap you could see arcing between two points, bit of an awkward job so hopefully won't have to do that again for a while.  Thank you all for your advice will be taxing the car now from the 1st April so hopefully plenty of outings this year.
