It begins...
#1
Hey there DOC nation! Greetings from Ireland.
I'm not going to do the whole life story thing but I'm 33 and a life long fan of "those" movies and this car.
I'm now starting a new chapter in my life and have set myself two goals.

1: Become a successful working actor (I've been acting only 16 months and have just completed my first lead role in a feature film and my first stint on a tv show over here)

2: Own a Delorean!

For obvious reasons one kind of has a big bearing on the other but I am sure I can achieve both and thought what better place to begin the journey on no.2 than here where the people who love these cars the most, hang out.

Looking forward to getting to know every one of you.

Philip

Fortunately you have the biggest gathering of DeLoreans in Europe happening next year @ Eurofest 2016: http://eurofest.deloreanowners.org/ If you fancy a trip over to the UK to see a lot then this will probably be the biggest gathering in the UK: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5440
May also be a good idea to check out the Irish DeLorean forum: http://www.delorean.ie/forum/index.php? ... cdbf86a9a6

I will certainly be making the trip Chris.

Joined Irish club and the .org forum too. I've spent a few hours this long weekend looking at a lot of youtube videos of the car in the UK and USA, various shows and documentaries and home videos also. Some good stuff there. I have to say that the For the love of cars episode was my personal favorite though I may be slightly biased in the fact it was presented by one of my lot! Phil was brilliant on that and the lad that did up the car is a genius. The auction also was great. I believe one of your members was the chap with the smoking car?!!! Poor fella hope he got over that.

Thanks for the welcome Chris.

Another one of our other members was the 'old boy' in the brown cord jacket going on about it being a 'proper RHDrive' and being 'on the list! '….they kept wanting me to say it was an ex 'Wooler-Hodec' job….which I declined to do….as it obviously wasn't .

You'd know how they can turn 2 days of filming with 3 people ( Including Chris W ) into 2 minutes of fame …..for the old boy…me!

Still it was good fun. Big Grin

Chris you came over great on it mate, handled it like a proper pro! I love your car. It's just fantastic.
Really well done on that job and the smoke thing, could have happened to anyone! Smile

Just to clarify, it wasn't my car, my only involvement was commenting of the car they were restoring and later sold.

The 'smoke thing', is something that happens occasionally with these cars, if they overheat. I believe this was caused by a faulty 'otter-stat' switch, which should have turned the electric fans on the radiator. It didn't and the car boiled up with loads of steam coming from the engine compartment. But it did look very dramatic and added to the story as all the folk got their mobile phones out!

Hey, it could have been caused by the "Meyerhoff lifters" for all I know about mechanics!
But loved the show anyway.

Just wondering, I know the whole "VIN" thing is a big mark of these cars and you guys all seem to talk about yours a lot. Given that I was born in December 81' I'd love the car I end up owning one day to be exactly as old as I am not that I'd be picky of course!
Anyone of your members currently sporting a December 1981 born car?

The car that broke down on FTLOC was mine. And, ahem, it has never happened before. Honest. But as Chris P said, it all added to the fun of the TV show (although at the time I was deeply stressed). Fortunately my fellow Delorean owners all reacted with sympathy (unlike my friends and colleagues who all reacted with hilarity and much mockery).

Oh, and it was steam, not smoke. Smile

Really appreciate it mate thank you. I'll have a dig around there now.

Ok, as if I had a time machine (or an edit button) I've found the numbers I need.
December 1981, exactly when I was born, feature the VIN numbers: 10001 - 10998

So it REALLY begins!!
