Ford Mustang Engine TO RENAULT UN1 gearbox conversion kit
#1
On Ebay conversion kit for your DeLorean: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171755601500? ... EBIDX%3AIT
I 'think' this is the company that has installed a LSD into the UN1 G/Box for Starglider and others?

Looks interesting, if you want the BTTF sound!
Out of interest, what power is it reckoned the Renault UN1 gearbox can handle?

As I'm not an expert on these I will let MartinG and or Starglider reply, but there has been discussion on this before and I'm sure 300bhp has been mentioned?

So that Mustang V8 will shred it if hooned about. And why have a V8 if you ain't going to hoon?
There is that problem in the VW world, Everyone likes more power, people fit bigger more torque/modern engines & then strip gears and break cv joints.

There have been numerous forum threads on this subject on DMCTalk etc. Consensus seems to be that safe torque loading is approx 200 ft/lbs on the auto and 250 ft/lbs on the manual, e.g. 220ish HP. Replacing the input shaft coupler (with a stronger coupler or single piece shaft) and fifth gear is recommended for 300+ ft/lbs; you would also have to use a stronger clutch. The transmission on my DMC-12 has these three modifications plus a Quaife LSD.

Not that I'm in position to, but how much do those up-grades come to? Is there a Gearbox re-builder that is known/recommended in the Delorean world?

This is not GTO Racing - they're based near Reading.

The Venturi 300 pushed over 300ft-lbs into an unmodified UN1 - although with fewer than 100 built it's not a large sample from which to garner empirical data. It's also a lightweight car.

5th is the weakest point but you have to be in it to break it. Otherwise it's the input shaft coupler.

The GTO gearset and quaife diff (which was originally comissioned by GTO) have been proven reliable in big-block powered GT40 racers.
