My Delorean Project...
#1
Well ive had the car about 2 months now and thought it was time to finally get the progress thread up and running...

Saw it on ebay in the US, price was right and it had no engine which i was ideally looking for as i wanted something with a bit more kick to put in, but did not fancy taking the engine out of a fully working one.

Delt with a great company who sorted everything out with transportation of the car, all i had to do was collect it from Southampton, sign some papers, all good
Incase anyone is interested it was a guy called Stephen, and company is http://www.ifeonline.com/page/homepage

After a very long and painful drive from Southampton to Huddersfield (take note of the towing vehicle lol) and my co pilot having a nap on the way so i go and investigate the delorean, jump in, shut the door, and then spent the next 15minutes dismantling the door card as best i could as neither doors would reopen.
"oh i thought you were just having a look around"

Dropped her off at work and pushed her into her new home for now...

Car all in all is not in bad condition, better than i was expecting.

I looked into engine choices, at first i wanted something a bit crazy to go in but hours and hours of discussion and debating i finally decided to go for the Renault Alpine GTA V6

To keep it semi original and not the hardest of engine conversions (im hoping)

So that is where i am at now, doing alot of research at the minute as i know nothing about the delorean or the gta! Also need to finish my other project the mk1 golf turbo g40 conversion, but thats another forum Wink

I have a shed load of questions and i do hope i do not annoy anyone on here!

The car has a few bits missing that i need to locate, top of the list is the fuel tank and the pump and all the gubbins that goes with it. Is this going to be a task?

Does anyone have any links or info on a delorean with the same engine conversion? i am sure i have seen a few over the years but search as i might i can not seem to locate any!

Are there any noob things i should know early on?
Looking forward to the project, my plan worked, as it has kicked me into action to finish the other project to make way for this!

have a word with Chris Parnham (contact number on website and in Club Mag),
he had lots of NOS fuel tanks.

As for installing the engine, your best bet is to speak to Martin G (stunned monkey on here),
as he's done engines like this into De's before and can point you in the right direction.

Great looking project you've got there, keep the updates coming! Big Grin

As Claire says, Martin has done these conversions inc turbo versions, would not choose it myself as I think a upgraded DeLorean/Volvo engine is more than adequate, but as you say you bought it with no engine and tha unit does fit well.

Looking good so far, the Alpine engine does seem to fit well. What's that running along the top of the engine? A resonator of sorts?

its a charge cooler, we decided to go for that option as running an intercooler is a bit of a pipework nightmare, it does not look too out of place there either

happy this weekend as i have finally managed to get hold of the 2 remaining interior panels i thought i could never source

Your making some nice progress there, interesting work with the engine, Martn G (stunned monkey on hear) has used those engines in a 'D' before IIRC I'm sure he would be interested in your project.

Hi, Had a read through your Blog & you mention being into old VW & the fact you decided to use Brickwerks (and thought an engine swap was a good idea  ). Maybe I know you from 'the yard'?
I'm on the same journey from VW to DMC. Must be a rear engine thing!!
Good luck!
