Hi all,

Just wanted to get some feedback from you all regarding modifications you have, or are considering, making to your vehicles.

We're interested to know what your top modifications are and the reason for choosing them. This could anything from cosmetic, comfort, safety, reliability or performance.

Hi Scott, I think most people limit modifications to changing the front springs to lower the
ride height, as US ride height is not (in my opinion) as attractive, especially when you
accelerate and the nose of the car goes skywards.

Another popular change, is to bring the engine up to European spec, which generally involves
removing the catalyst and changing some of the fueling/ignition system to the European version
of the engine, which basically takes the car from 130hp to around 160-170hp, the same as the
Volvo 760 of the time of which the DeLorean shares many engine parts.

Other owners also change the exhaust system to a more free flowing stainless system.

I hope not. RH has been very fair up to now.

The modest modification mentioned are only what the UK model would have been ( and are, in 3 cases) So not really modifications at all!

The few Turbo converted cars don't tend to travel very far…..before they encounter 'reliability issues'…..or am I wrongly informed here?

Reliability issues tend to surround electrics rather than fundamental engine problems.

When Rich J originally got his insured after the 2.5 conversion they asked him "how much more power does it produce than the original 200hp?"

Hi Rissy,

Fully understand that some people may read the original post and have the same concerns as you do. I can assure you it isn't for the purpose of increasing premium.

We are simply trying to get a better understanding from actual owners as to what modifications they typically look to make and why.

This will in turn assist us in dealing with customers who have modified vehicles.

As Chrispy said, the majority of 'modifications' are to bring the car to the
'European spec' then US spec, and dont compare to cars like Corsa's that
look like they've crashed into Halfords accessory department.

e.g. making the front side marker lights work as indicator repeaters, instead of coming on with the sidelights. This is a fairly common modification that improves safety in the UK.

I think upgrading the brake calipers is relatively common as well. Towbar is not a common modification.

I have a Corsa.. it might be me but I rarely see cars of any type "crashing through Halfords". I figure the manufacturers are doing a better job of making desirable models to begin with - like both my VXRs.

In any case, lowering the ride height at the front was "stock" before they shipped out to the US, so I can't see that being a modification. The whole suspension package - THAT is a modification. Same with the stainless exhaust. There is little else beyond skirts or other "perceived tat" that could really be called "mods" to a DeLorean. Even harder, would be proving any of it for any real reason. Every DeLorean is different

I'm kinda referring to the boy racer faves of the Corsa B/C, Saxo, C2, Pug 106 et al brigade
who bolt every bit of crap imaginable to their 1.0 cars to 'modify' them.

Stretched tyres on a DeLorean? Think I'll leave that to the VeeDub scene...........

My insurer was notified about my free flow exhaust and spoiler, they said how much extra power it gave and I said about 15bhp, it's now listed on my insurance document but no change in premium.

In reality the 15bhp probably just overcomes the additional drag from my spoiler lol.
