Evening all. Its probably been discussed before but I thought if I bring it up on the new forum it'll be a permenant reocrd.
I'm going to get my hands dirty soon and do some work on the car including an oil change. What do other people recommend I use oil wise? And how much does a Delorean take?

Well I use Castrol Magnatec 15W40 , it is semi synthetic, quite often on special at Halfords around £18 for 4.5 litres. You will need 2, as it needs 6.5 - 7 litres when you change the filter. Dont skimp on the filter either. I have been using Purflux LS 592A (M20x1.5) since I got my car, though Martin tells me he has had problems with fitting that filter on the D :o . Oh and dont forget to fill the filter with some fresh oil (and of course put some on the rubber sealing ring) before screwing it on.
Then again with your stage 2 engine Martin may have a different idea on best oil to use

Unfortunatly everyone has a different opinion on this, Personally I use Halfords 10-40 enhanced Mineral oil, for two reasons
1; it's reasonable quality and fairly cheap (tight ars**ed northaner)
2; This would have been the standard of oil used when the engine was built (as far as I am aware)
But everone has there own opinion, so long as it's changed requrally (along with the filter) then I dont think it's to much of a problem what you use, just dont get really thin oil. And remember it hold just over 7 litres and most oil catchers only hold about 5-6 litres :oops:

I just started using VALVOLINE 15/50 mineral oil, car seemed to run like crap with the 10/40 I was using before.
Expensive stuff at £16.00 for 5 litres but it has made some difference to the engine.

This engine is old technology so pretty much anything sensible will do as long as it's changed regularly. And we've resurrected engines that had what appeared to be tar in the sump (one springs to mind that took a 3' breaker bar to undo the oil filter!).
We use 10W40 Semi at the workshop, and at the moment we're getting ELF stuff which is the recommended Renault oil :-) Although for ages we were using the Vauxhall stuff Nick gets.
My new toy however will be getting the quality fully synthetic stuff (see below). That's an engine that has oil issues!!!!! (but this one sounds great and goes like the clappers)

LOL nope, but if you ever get the chance to take apart a 24v, you might twig... this particular one has been owned and run by a citroen specialist for the past 10 years and has survived on a diet of regular fully synthetic oil changes. Finding a 24v that hasn't started to eat its exhaust pushrods is a rare find, and a left-hooker with DIRAVI.... well, I had planned on knocking it out on ebay strait away, but it's putting such a grin on my face every time I drive it now!
