Mine failed and cross referencing the correct modern Sanden part proved difficult as there are so many variants.
DMCH www.delorean.com is convenient for a lot of stuff but their compressors are 30 years old so there is no way I would trust the seals albeit unused. It is far easier to order the below:- http://www.specialtauto.com/air-conditi ... index.html and in your case the bits you need with it can be bought as a kit:- http://www.specialtauto.com/air-conditi ... -kit-2.jpg Assuming your condensor and evarporator are okay you MUST fit a new dryer and orifice tube (which are included above) as they are consumables that are comprimised once the system has been opened up to the environment. Think of it like an oil change (i.e. you would always change the oil filter at the same time as changing your oil). The vendor also sells the earlier type of dryer depending on how early your VIN is.... Let us know what you choose to do?

cheers for that, well i have literally nothing to start off with just the evaporator core!
im just thinking will it be easier fitting a more readily available pump, with a bit of bracket fabricating the engine side is done, then some pipes made? i would not mind buying from special auto but i had a nightmare trying to order before and the import tax is always a killer so im seeing if it can be sorted over here easier and cheaper just thinking out loud really, forgive my noob delorean ignorance, im sure it will have been asked before thanks again

from what I remember James Espey saying at the DMCH Open House in 2003 (and Chris Hawes might
remember as he was there too ), the AC Compressor is common to quite a few cars, he used a 'DeLorean' one on his 1989 Range Rover, but I think he just had to change over one bit on it. I saw an Aston Martin Lagonda at a show a couple of years ago, and that actually uses two of those compressors! I'm sure if someone could give you a part number, you could probably source the compressor and some other bits in the UK.

Been there done that.
The pump that John sells is the SD508 for R134A The back plate is different, so he fits a DeLorean one. You won't find anywhere in the UK that sells them cheaper. I ordered an entire system, front to back from him and had only a few small problems with some of the parts. His shipping charges are reasonable, but his packing is atrocious!

ah right, saves me going through what you have already, yet more good use of the forum, cheers for that
how much did you pay for the entire system? thanks
25 Jul 2012, 21:51
Excluding the evaporator $782.55
I paid $266.03 in shipping charges (though I did buy a second compressor for another club member) That's $1048.58 , which at today's exchange rate is £676.60 (that's really good compared to what is was last November  ) Then I paid £120.84 in VAT/TAX Although some bits stalled because of some problems between the compatibility of John's VOV valve and Ed's evaporator, the install was straight forward, everything was nice and new and clean, and it all worked first time, with no leaks. I now have a perfect, complete R134A system which wont need re-gassing every five minutes and blows 6 degrees C at the vents on speed 2 Worth every penny 8)

Quote:well i emailed John and yet again it is an absolute nightmare, he is so hard to communicate withYep, spent huge amounts with him and it generally takes a week or two to even get an order confirmation from him!!! however cant fault the parts I have had. I'm told it far easier to ring him. Chris

yeah he did say to ring but its just easier to, go check parts, send me total, i pay, done lol
i will keep pestering and see how i get on, just wish i knew what was what!

I think you need to bite the bullet and ring him, he's an ok guy, I've met him
and infact I nearly put him through the windscreen of our hire car in the US as I wasnt used to driving an automatic and I hit the brakes going for the imaginary clutch pedal (Martin Gutkowski will remember this lol). Just remember the time differences - although he's the worst for this, many times he rang my old house years ago at 1am not realising that we're summat daft like 6hrs ahead of Texas......

dknight Wrote:well i emailed John and yet again it is an absolute nightmare, he is so hard to communicate with I don't think it gets much clearer than that, assuming one actually knows all of the parts of the DeLorean's air conditioning system... From what I've seen, John can't deliver a package 400 miles without something getting mangled along the way (probably because the contents are simply tossed into a box)... if you're getting a condenser shipped 4000 miles, you should probably also send him some guidance on how to properly pack the box Travis

the guy is a god damn moron!
and i chose those words out of how he replies to emails and communicates. never have i had to deal with someone so tediously slow and swaying off the basic fact i want to buy some god damn bits off him! right scrap using him, what other options do i have, do dmc offer a full kit? if anyone cares, just have a read through our email tennis... 25th July "Hi John Hope all is good, i was chatting on the delorean members forum here in the uk and i was explaining that i have only the evaporator core and need to locate all the other parts. Would you be able to supply me with the bits i need? could you get me a total price and what bits are needed? thanks" his reply: "Daniel, I have all the AC parts on the web site with the cost. Add to basket as your looking and you don't have to buy and it will give you a running total. Then you can print it off. I send the cheapest way http://www.usps.com priority mail and normally customs is 1/3rd the parts cost. That's why I sell so much international all over the world." I mean from the outset he answers none of my questions there? July 26th hi john yeah ive looked on your site already but i have no idea what parts are needed to make a "complete" set thanks dan his reply: "Ok, call me and I can explain. But the main question is when you say you want a complete AC because I get that question naturally all the time does that mean you want an evaporator and condenser. Most don't so that shoots down the question I want a complete AC system. The are you converting from R12 to R134. Most are, then what vin # are you. John" Aug 5th "Hi again John I picked up my vehicle with many parts missing, no engine or running gear. I have fitted a PR-V engine from a Renault Alpine GTA, from looking i have no part of the air con system, only the evaporator in the dash. I wish i had at least old parts to replace to make it easier for me to see, but i am doing it a bit blind as i am not educated on the delorean set up to know. So i would be after everything needed apart from the evaporator. the vin number i believe is 2526. I hope you can help thanks Dan" his reply: "Yea, Please always keep the same thread going on the same subject. I get 200 to 300 emails a day and a lot go to junk and spam. I can price out if you with all pars include mounting brackets on the compressor. So do you want me to make you up a total cost?? John Aug 8th: "Hi again John "i need everything that makes up the air con system, apart from the evaporator core" I have mentioned what i need on the delorean forum and a few people have replied saying to get the bits from you, but they did mention that your packing is not the best. This worries me a little as the parts will be travelling so far, and if any are damaged will be no use to me and i will expect replacements sent. I just want to make all this aware before ordering so we are both clear and avoid any issues at a later date. here is a list of the bits i do believe i need: x1 off 100746K1 AC compressor kit with accum & orifice $199.95 x1 off 30591 AC compressor hoses pair R134A spliced. $219.95 x1 off 106327-24 ac condensor core only HE $139.95 x2 off 105638 ac idler wheel bearings $4.50 ea x1 off 100744-134 AC low pressure cycling switch R134A $16.95 x1 off 41-50008 ac compresser oil Sanden R134A $26.85 x1 off 110525HUB AC hub assy with HP switch, pop off switch $139.95 x1 off 105505SPT Special T AC heavy duty belt. $11.95 I will need these items posting to the UK, if you can get me a total cost for this and a paypal payment email i will get it sent over any problems please email back thanks Dan" His reply: "Daniel, If you are going to the forum for information on DeLorean parts then maybe you need to buy somewhere else. There are people out there that would criticize anyone for any little thing that could be messed up in shipping because they have nothing better to do and they have never been in my shoes. If you understand all the hands it has to go thru, packing in trucks, handling on dock, travel distance, customs opens packages for inspection I'm even amazed sometime sometimes how parts arrive in one piece. So if you're going to the forum's and you want to compare me to the people that have nothing better to do than to sit back and Gossip and criticize others then maybe you need to buy somewhere else. Good luck John" Honestly what is wrong with him? im the one wanting to give him money right???? |
