Hi all,

Pretty much a similar question to my gas strut one: it's been a while (7+ years) since I've bought tyres for a DeLorean but I'm looking at the options currently available for a matching (as far as possible) set of tyres with the proper dimensions.

What's the situation with Pirellis at the moment? Are the P600s still available or have supplies dried up now?

Based on your experiences, what's the best buy on the market at the moment?

Still the best option are Pirellis in my opinion, The rears are available if you shop around however you may have to do the shopping around as kwik fit may not!

Any joy with these Phil? Got a set of Pirelli rears, however I'm struggling to find fronts. Did you get any in the end?

Micheldever Tyres is normally slightly better value than Black Circles but availability is of course the driving factor.

I contacted Pirelli a few years ago and they confirmed that at that time they acknowledged that although the tyres are no longer sold in large volumes there is still a demand. It was made clear to me then that they had no plans to drop the tyres.

I had a puncture not long after replacing my last set of rears and finding a replacement provided tricky but not impossible. I found a company way down south called Vintage Tyres so they could be worth a shot.

Let us know how you get on. Any chance of some pics of your restoration Phil?

Good news Chris, how much do Vintage Tyres charge for the Pirelli's out of interest?

I've finally had my Pirellis changed (on the back) after 6 years, but I've had to fit 225
tyres rather then 235's, as 235's are nigh on impossible to find - unless you've got several
eon's to trawl t'internet looking for them.

When I last had Pirelli's 6yrs ago, the rears were £88 each......

Hi Chris,

I'm not having much luck with this at all unfortuately. I've got my wheels ready to be sent off for refurbishment but no new shoes to put on them when they come back.

As of a couple of months ago, my local tyre place in Leamington Spa could get me the P6000s for the front but I didn't order them at the time as I was waiting to see what the situation was with regard to the P600s for the rear. Having called them back last week the P6000s are now not available! Or at least, it's a case of computer says "no".

Having called Pirelli this morning, they say that the P6000 is now obsolete, which I think we all knew was coming. The P600 however is still a "current tyre", but they have none in stock and don't know when they are going to produce any more. Having spoken to someone in the classic tyre industry recently, he felt that we could be waiting a long time as Pirelli have got a lot going on in motorsport currently and so making a batch of P600s is probably way down their list of priorities.

Looking around online, there are a number of options for the fronts from manufacturers such as Michelin, Continental and Firestone, along with a load of budget manufacturers. As far as the rears go the only readily available option seems to be a Kenda Klever at around £100 but I have no idea what they're like.

It's a bit of an annoying situation really. I wonder what the guys in the Lotus and Jaguar worlds are doing about this shortage?

Here's one of the more light-hearted ones (albeit a bit blurry) where I'm making full use of the RHD removable trunk panel:



I'd describe it as a mixture of research and recommissioning which, although I'm finding it really interesting, means every job takes a bit longer. There was a big moment recently when I uncovered some evidence that indicated what the car's original VIN number was before it was re-vinned as a 121XX car. James Espey reckons it's "very likely" that I've found the car's original VIN but there needs to be some more research carried out before it can be deemed conclusive. In any case, it goes a considerable way to disproving the oft-touted notion of the Wooler-Hodec cars being rolling black cars.

I'm hoping to write this up fully for the next club mag.

...You kitted out your garage into an extra bedroom Phil? lol! You've got curtains, and a TV etc! I bet you're living in there, eh!? Sleeping, hugging, being close to your car every night. (Hope you're keeping it clean though....you wouldn't want your mum to walk in on you in an otherwise compromising position! :wink: )

Yeah, all the websites list them but it's when you try to order that they return an "out of stock" error message

Interested: Why do you NEED Pirelli's? What about the other brands?
