without looking at my diagram, I think the problem is the white socket has no power supply.

You're right I would really like to have a delay and slow fading to off. What is the concern with carefully modifying, sorry BODGING the original loom to make this happen?

Nothing really.
It's just I've never been keen on 'drop in' fixes which actually need wiring mods. I'll see what I can come up with
