November 5th, 1955.

I had a thought...once.

I while ago I realised that, if you look at it one way (depending on how you cut the temporal cheesecake) on November 5th, 1955 there are 4 time machines in and around hill valley:

The Delorean Marty originally travelled back in;
The Delorean Biff stole and used to give himself the almanac;
The Delorean Doc and Marty went back with to get the book back from biff; and
The Delorean in the old abandoned Del Gato mine adjacent to the old Boot Hill Cemetery.

anyone else had a thought? :lol:

I have also wondered in the third film why they don't just get the bits required/fuel from the DMC Doc was zapped in.

I.e. one car got hit by an arrow and is in the bears cave, one car should be in the care of Doc. Surely there is no problem getting back then?

Yeah but what would happen if the car in the mine was damaged in some way making it unrepairable in the future!! Marty would never have gone back to help Doc and would have then been stuck in 1955 again, Doc would never have got the warning about being shot either, the car in the mine HAD to be left there as it had an effect to the time-line, if the car was removed from the time-line then it could effect the future.

The whole film is like this, every thing you do in the past effects the future, you have to be very very carefull not to effect the time-line, hence the problems they had in BTTF2!!

The car that was zapped would have had the fuel drained from it. As Alistair says, you could produce a paradox disturbing the pre-packed car in the mine before it was due to be unearthed in 1955. So a more creative solution had to be found...

It wouldnt have mattered if he'd drained the car of fuel, because once it is recovered in 1955, doc mentions he's fitted new tyres and filled her up with gas anyway. So effectively, the 1855 doc could have taken the fuel from the DeLorean he's left in the mine, reapired the fuel line of the DeLorean that came back with marty, and filled her up ! Even if you couldnt have done this, doc could have left a message in the car saying "Bring back a can of Gas, an UZI , some sunglasses and a bottle of Pepsi". Big Grin

In all honesty, BTTF 1 was well thought out, and had very little problems (Paradox wise). BTTF2 had quite a few paradoxs, but BTTF3 was full of them.

Doc: I foresee two possibilities. One - coming face-to-face with herself thirty years older could put her into shock and she could simply pass out. Or two - the encounter could create a time paradox, the results of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the entire universe!.... Granted, that's the worse case scenario. The destruction might, in fact, be very localised, limited to merely our own galaxy.

Marty: Well, that's a relief.

The only thing that I didn't understand about the third film (and I'm pretty sure I did at one point , but I've forgot) is where in the hell did the train come from at the end (the on doc and family is in)?

pfft.

I still think the train pushing the Delorean long the tracks is one of the best film sequences...love it.

If I can hijack my own thread for a minute...

If you have some spare time look through Back II and notice the lay out of the time circuit display...it's all wrong. on some shots the formatting of the dates is not even close....

also as doc is moving the delorean around at the top of the casino just before they go back to 1955 (I don't believe it!). look where the DMC logo is supposed to be.

I'm not into pulling films apart for errors and goofs, but I thought I'd throw those in to see what people think. There are loads more, but those two are the ones I've noticed most recently.

Dave.

When doc travelled forward to 1985 to visit Marty and Jen his departure from the past would have been probably from 1893 at the earliest assuming Doc and Clara had the eldest child straight away. It is clear that doc was doing well and obviously had no problem purchasing a locomotive of his own before doing the usual Doc styling touches plus 21st visit for the flying circuits before popping back to 1985 before whenever he was going to next... Take the kids to Disney World, no, the Jurassic period... who knows...

One thing that always bugged me (yes, I know it is only a movie) was when was the last time that a train destroys a car and then doesn't bother to stop to take down any details. Probably the worlds forst rail 'hit & run'

At least they knew when to stop, BTTF IV could not have kept the series fresh enough...

Well, I don't know...

doesn't it take a couple of miles for those big freight trains to stop.

His brakes weren't on when he passed, that's for sure.

If you look closely at that scene of the train crash (AND I MEAN CLOSELY) you will see that the Delorean is only a shell, it has no underbody, chassie or engine and it seems to explode about a second before the train hits.

If you did not know the layout of the car you would never think there was anything strange about the scene.

You mean it was 'Staged' in someway.... like a Movie ??? Smile Tee Hee

See what you mean though it basically fell apart before impact, glad it wasnt a 'real' car .

The strange thing to me is the train didnt even try to brake or stop, nor did anyone at the lights see the accident and come and take a look Smile
