An EFI type performance upgrade like on my car actually improves economy -- depending on the way it's driven of course. It's not going to be as efficient as a diesel but economy isn't a good reason to avoid performance upgrades in general.

we get waste oil from pubs for free - waste companies charge to take it away
so the pubs are happy for us to have it - plus we give them all the proper
waste transfer paperwork to keep the Environment Agency happy.
We've got a setup whereby the oil goes into a settlement tank - the oil obviously
floats on any water, so that can be drained off using the bottom tap, then
the clear oil on top is drawn off using a sequence of taps and that goes through
a proper 5 micron filter (from a company called BioTuning). After its been
through that, its clean enough to go straight into the fuel tank. There is a
very minor drop in performance, but we counteract that with a measured
dose of "special stuff" , but when you're crawling in traffic commuting, performance
isnt really that important. The car still returns 45mpg average, which is great
and I've worked out that running this old Cav is saving me over £100 a
month in fuel!
Interesting that you've been able to fit a Bosch pump instead of a Lucas one,
I'd wondered if they were interchangeable.
Everyone is now banging on about 'bio fuels' and how the third world are now
growing fuels rather then food....... you dont have to do this! Your average
KFC gets through over 500 litres a week - think how many big fast food chains
and outlets there are all round the world - this is ideal for simple processing
into useable fuel - however, the powers that be wont do a simple mass
filtration as newer diesel cars (ie the common rail ones that we have today)
wont run on it - and they dont want lots of old diesel cars on the road!
Oh and forget getting waste oil from your local chippy - all they do is top up
the oil all the time as the oil soaks into the food......... lovely........ :?

I love the idea of running your everyday motor on old veg oil. I am seriously thingking of buying an old 205 diesel, I had one before and it was a great chep runabout, running on chip fat would be even better.
I have had both my Touraeg and old Jeep converted to LPG. If you have the room and can afford it, buying your own bulk LPG tank is the way to go.
I wont say how much I'm paying a litre, but its not much! And I can stand all these stupid shortages with no worries.

i was driving past our local petrol garage today and yes i saw the very nice little asain man with a big smile on his face and a remote control in his hand changing the price on the big sign yet again diesel from £1.18ltr to £1.20ltr
when will it stop ,i think we should all do some kind of protest maybe do something with a flux capacitor for a alternitive fuel substance ,if we can get as many deloreans in a row we could block off a motorway or something if nothing eles it would be a good delorean owners club meet up and if we get any problems with coppers we can put tourettes tony to sort them out .i haven't ever meet you mate but yes i have heard the story aswell
kind regards all tyson

I don't think the blocking of the motorway with DeLoreans is a good club promotion
Though we will all be in the next day's headline news 8)
But it's always good to arrange D meets

Just think though, if a bunch of Ds went round the m25 and stopped on both sides and stopped the whole motorway during rush hour... Imagine the publicity!!!!
