Frame Restoration ideas/suggestions please

2456 arrives on 7th May and I had decided to send the frame to Ed to get repaired and galvanised. Costing around £2,500 though, do you think it is worth it or are there alternatives locally or that I can do myself that will work without the frame warping or bending?

Removal of the epoxy is the main issue as I like the idea of Ed's vacuum furnace. Getting it out of the box section seems to be the hard part. Any ideas?

Hi mate, I'm just in the middle of doing mine now & £2,500 sounds like a lot of dosh to me. I've found a few places near where I am that can strip them. I've ended up going to a place in Nottingham, that have stripped it in a furnace type set-up (hundred & fifty quid)
Then another company just round the corner from them who are shot blasting it then powder coating, for around the same cost.
I know there has been lots of debates on which way to go with the frames, but I look at it like this.
They are very robust frames, mine looked really, really scabby, but once stripped it was very solid. If you gave one a good clean up & then just painted it in something like ordinary two pac paint, you ain't gonna be stripping it again in your lifetime. I want mine to be nice when its done, I'm sure it will be, but I think you just have to be careful not to go too OTT, because at the end of the day, you can just be spending money for the benefit of the next guy who owns it

Since seeing Conors frame http://www.delorean.ie/Conor2007.html I definitely want it removed and galvanised no matter how minor it looks in place. Stripped down his looked real bad http://www.delorean.ie/ed_uding.html £2,500 was including shipping to Ed and all. I haven't found a furnace near to me in Northern Ireland yet. Will have a look

Yeh, I have seen his & it was bad. I think your probably better making the desicion when you've stripped it & seen what its like.

I definitely want it stripped and galvanised as even if it doesn't need it now it will later

If you have made your mind up, thats what you want, all I can suggest is speak to one of the guys who have already done it. Galvanising was'nt something I was really interested in, so I did'nt spend too much time researching it, but I know a few have had problems with 'twisting' as you mentioned.

Got mine taken away, galvanised, powder coated and brought back for around £1500 (from memory). No twisting problem - big company, they know what they're doing. My chassis came out absolutely fine other than some dents which were already in it.

I know this post is a few weeks old but I just noticed it.

Try these guys, I have used them a few times for various things, I built a trailer when I was in school for metal class and they powder-coated it for me. They are a great bunch of guys and would be more than happy to blast your frame.

They do galvenising, powder coat, paint, you name it....
