I just looked on ebay and saw this D for sale and wondered what the rusty silver pipe ducting in the engine bay is for as mine doesn't have it:

The pipe is a warm air feed from the RH exhaust manifold, When the car is warming up the air is drawn through this pipe into the air filter box. Its to reduce emissions slightly during warm-up. Most people have done away with them as its said you can gain a small amount of power, plus the exhaust manifold stove rusts away so saves replacing it

The pipework isn't the problem, but the valve that feeds it is. It keeps the air ducted from the heat stove for way too long and it reduces the intake to not much more than an inch in diameter.

hi

the pipe is difficult to source.

got mine new from a volvo dealer, they don't normally sell, but use it in the workshop.

they were quite helpfull!.
