I only fill up once or twice in a few months in ASDA... so perhaps I am one of those lucky ones who mainly fill up at Shell, BP...etc
Kind Regards,

Yeah shocking this. Apparently it has only effected Vauxhall and one other make of car - due to the exhaust gas sensor being contaminated (sure theres a tech name for it) - im sure the engines themselves are fine? Cud be wrong. I have a Vauxhall Corsa but I fill up at Sainsbury's so ive had no issues thank god.

EDIT: Just had a thought, if terrorists really wanted to reak havok anywhere, all they really need to do is contaminate fuel, we wouldnt be able to do anything! Only a harsh thought, but it could become a reality perhaps?! Dont shout at me

I have heard people saying "exhaust gas sensor poisoning".... not sure if that's the techanical term?? :?

Anyway, be safe, don't save that few pennys for the time being and fill up at shells/BP...etc until we know what's going on exactly.

well, I heard on the radio a bit back that Silicone is the contaminant that has been doing all the damage - and not just to Vauxhalls - people were phoning into Jeremy Vine's programme the other day with all sorts of cars that were suffering from knackered oxygen sensors.

Silicone is used in diesel as an antifoaming agent - I wonder if petrol was put in diesel tanks, or silicone was added to petrol by mistake? I've heard that alot of supermarket petrol is 'watered down' with ethanol and methanol to keep the price low.

Apparantly, Asda, Morrisons and Tesco have said may have to put up their petrol prices to cover the cost of having to dispose of the contaminated fuel, clean all their tanks out and refill with fresh petrol.
