Angle Drives
#46
Quote:Chris W - can you let me know what you think before I put in a purchase order with Speedograph?
As I see it there are 4 firm orders, if you don't mind contacting them to get a price for them to be done with the correct nuts on and see what's the best deal we can get for them. They may do a deal for 10, if not 6/8? is a good round number. There well respected units so will sell eventually. if that's OK with you?

Round it up to 10, they'll sell eventually. I for one would much rather have a speedograph angle drive than a DMCH one. Wink

remember ordering 10 will tie up over £1000 of Club funds - and with only 4 confirmed orders
that means I'll be sitting on over £600 of angle drives - the first batch we had done back in
2008 ish took 2yrs to sell.

I'll order 6, that means I'll only be sitting on 2 of them once the first 4 are sold.

mmm, I was thinking they 'may' give a bit better price for more, if not then I'm sure 6 or 8 will be fine, if the turnaround time improves then it would not matter anyway especially if they could be produced in under 6 months

lol, they weren't interested in discounting last time I spoke to them - well only if we ordered
a massive amount.

I'm sure the price will be similar, they were about £105 with the VAT last time IIRC - will drop
them an email this morning.

put an email enquiry into Speedograph this morning, and asked for an idea on delivery - this was the response:

I regret we cannot give a delivery date on these as the gentleman that builds them is off after having an operation and we do not know when he will be back yet.

Regards
Tim

I'll put the order in, but as you can see, your guess is as good as mine as to when we'll get them.

I guess that's old fashioned engineering companies for you - and folks wonder
why we import stuff en masse from China these days rather then making stuff
here.....

There's a possiblity I might need one - I've just got my Delorean on the road and the speedo doesn't work. Or the fuel gauge. And I'm not sure the tachometer is reading correctly either. The instrument cluster is a real dog's dinner. I did take the speedo cable out of the back when I took the cluster out to clean the contacts on the light bulbs in there, maybe didn't reconnect it properly, but it's hard to tell, as I've never seen the speedo working. I just replaced the fuel sender too so I hope the fuel gauge isn't knackered as they aren't cheap. This was a very sickly car that hasn't been on the road in 9 years, and was reportedly a bit of mess even when it was on the road.

I don't know if I'm missing something but can't they just be purchased directly from Delorean Europe?

Indeed they can, but unless Ed's are different to the DMCH ones the jury is out as to how well they last. Best to search DMC talk for the opinions on them. The ones we sell are a version that MartinG had made (only difference is the retaining nut I think) these are very reliable and very positive feedback on these can also be found on DMC talk. Plus they are made in the UK with warranty and are fix-able by the company that makes them (if he's not on holiday!)

Best thing to do is take the front wheel off and remove the white plastic cover at the centre of the hub, this should have a square fitting that meets with the end of the angle drive, this should fit on the flexi-cable thing of the angle drive and turn it. Might be easiest to disconnect the lower cable from inside the car to see if it's turning the cable (this also fails) Basically check everything works! bit by bit.
