LMAO, you do get some random people on there, usually people with knackered mk3 fiestas thinking they are 'cool and retro', telling people how their proper classics are crap

i actually got that when we went to pick up my D from the docks, my mate said to the workers in the unit. 'i bet you get loads of sweet cars coming through here' and one of the guys said, 'naa they're just peices of crap to me'......... when we were leaving, that same guy got in a knackered corsa, exhaust falling off and different coloured doors, driving away acting like a badass ha ha
i think a lot of it is jelousy really.

I thought he didn't do it as a business as he didn't need to? Only used it for charity work
well maybe it is only charity work....but either way people still need
to know the car is out there......and what's wrong with making a few bucks
along the way...!!!!!!

Back onto the self drive...
If you wanted to go down the self drive route without too much of an insurance headache get a local or specialist vehicle hire company to rent the car off you and add it too their fleet and then sub hire it under their self drive policy.
I know when I worked in the vehicle hire game we did this with a couple of exotic and kit cars, in fact I assume this is how the other DeLorean self drive was run.
They were hired by our company, added to the fleet list and then covered by the fleet hire policy, it also means your contract is with a hire business rather than Jo public which must make any damage claim a little easier.
When we had various cars on our policy they weren't even necessarily kept at the hire yard, the owners used their car as per normal, and if we had a booking/enquiry we checked availability and the owner brought it in/we collected it.
We only did it with a few odd vehicles I recall a Ferrari Modena 360's, Aston Martin DB9 a Bentley and a westfield xi but it seemed to work well for all parties.

The owner was "kcoopa", but he let it through Great Escape Classic Car hire, so not sure who set the price and whether Great Excape work on a commission basis.

I suppose it depends if there is the market for DeLorean self drive, for £500 you get some pretty decent cars DB9's, ferraris, Audi R8, Bentley etc...
But at the end of the day with the relative rarity of deloreans and the childhood memories of BTTF now encompassing the thirty-something's there probably is a small pool of car geeks who would be prepared to pay that kind of money to 'enjoy' a DeLorean for the day.

Thanks for the varied and interesting replies. I did indeed find one self drive in worcestershire on the website previously mentioned but alas he stopped this year
We are indeed 30 somethings and my fiance is a car enthusiast ( dad was a racing driver and instructor so it's in his blood) and adores the Delorean being an 80's child. I just thought it would make the perfect birthday present! I can understand why people don't trust self-drive clients but it's a shame for the genuine enthusiasts. This was my last attempt but thanks for your help guys.
