Idal low speed moter

Hi all. on fixing my electrical problem just now befor my tea witch was very nice in fact. I had the ignition switched on but car not running and i could hear a humming coming from the back . Its not the fuel pump because thats in the front and silent after 5 secs. I think its the idal low speed moter. black thing about the size of a can of red bull, big connector on the top. Can anyone tell me if its supposed to hum and vibrate like an electric shaver. I don't know because funny enough i'm always sat in the car when i turn the key. cheers.

Yes, when the ignition is on the idle speed valve is powered up and hums. Put your hand on it and u can feel it

But its not that loud , you can only hear it with the engine cover open

Thanks Chris. it might be that mine is humming just a little louder than normal. It is quiet in my garage.

You will get the humming as the ECU is pulsing the motor into the fully open position ready for starting the engine.
