Lepsons Gillingham - Alloy Wheel Refurbishment
#1
For anyone looking to have their wheel's refurbished, I can thoroughly recommend using Lepsons in Kent, they have done a cracking little job on my wheels.

Normal turnaround time is around 3 days, and costs £312 (at time of writing), or £336 with new metal valves. I had mine done in their standard "flat silver" which is very close to the original colour of my wheels.

I did lookup BJV Engineering as recommended by Chris S, but their recent reviews didn't inspire confidence, so the search began to try and find a company with a decent reputation that I could trust to do the job, after some searching I stumbled across Lepsons, and based on numerous good reviews from other motoring websites, I took the plunge and had them refurb my wheels.

They do look good, and is another option for everyone. Not sure where you read the reviews for BJV but I have had just had mine done there and they were done very well. They have a lot of experience of doing DeLorean wheels (plus other sets I have sent them) cost £200.00 all in for refurb fitting/balancing new tyres and disposal of old 30 year old rubber. Plus there local to me so they collect and deliver back to. Good to have another option though.

To be honest Chris, I just Googled "BJV Engineering review" on Google, and found a lot of mixed reviews so it appeared to me that they are a bit hit and miss.
It would have been ideal for me to use BJV as they are only about 30 miles away, compared to the 70 mile trip down to Gillingham. But based on the reviews, I wasn't prepared to take a risk on using BJV, and was happy to pay a bit more and use Lepsons, who have consistently good reviews and come recommended via multiple threads on the likes of pistonheads and other motoring sites.

Like you said though, it's an extra option Smile

The price I posted is for wheels are supplied with tyres, and includes refitting and balancing etc - They are also currently offering free collection and delivery. I will definitely be using Lepsons again in the future as the wheels on my daily driver could do with a refurb.

BJV used to be excellent, I can remember them doing #6457's about 10yrs ago and
doing a great job, but times and people move on, so maybe that's what's happened.

I've had (through a Vauxhall contact) a place in Birmingham recommended to me who
do alloy refurbs from £20 a wheel, we're going to get them to do the spare set of
wheels we've got for the Avantime first and if they do a good job, let them loose on
#2292's wheels and see what sort of results we get - if they are any good, I'll post
their details on here.

Your wheels look fab Mike Smile

They look really nice.

Here's another option http://www.wheelgenie.co.uk/ based in Huntingdon.
I highly recommend these guys.

They did a great job on LJH's wheels a few years back. Every time Claire see's my car she keeps threatening to nick the wheels!

Green marks? Will the marks not come off with a good clean?
With the amount of brake dust on mine when I first got it, I ended up taking the wheels off the car to make them easier to clean. Use some warm soapy water with some Jif/Cif cream, and a paintbrush. Once they are cleaned up and back on the car, they are pretty easy to keep on top of if you clean the spokes out each time you wash the car.

Lepsons are one of the more expensive options, but I think that is reflected in the quality of their work. If you do go with them, just make sure you tell them that you want 'Flat Silver' all over. (They were trying to tell me the wheels should have 'Sparkle Silver' with polished spokes which is not accurate to the original finish.)

Yes it is, and yes I do.

At the end of the day a lot run without a front number plate at all, very few people have ever been pulled over and if you do (unless the rules have changed) it was only a £30.00 fine for displaying an incorrect plate or not displaying one. I ran a plate like Mikes for 6 years and was never pulled once, was pulled for not running a front one, but I think that was to look at the car really! and was just told to put one on it.

I haven't been pulled for it....yet.

The plate came from here: http://platemyride.com/plate-simulators ... te-plates/

Chris
I normally have the front plate sat on top of the binnacle, so it's to hand if in the event I do get pulled. I've run the car minus the front plate for 3 years now, and haven't yet had a problem with the local constabulary.
