the old pulls strongly to the right and steering wheel vibra
#1
Hey

As some of you know ive had a little issue with my car at random times just pulling strongly to the right and the steering wheel vibrating abit and it being hard to control, followed by all that vanashing within a minute or 2, its only happened twice before and never managed to track it down.

Well today letting my dad drive the de for the first time it did it again, followed by stopping. Anyways just after that my dad stalled the car (typical) and after he got it started, released the handbrake and pulled off and a bit of white smoke came from the wheel, followed by NO BRAKES!! the break pedal now goes fully to the floor, pumping it seems to work ok, got the car home and the front right wheel is hot (not in the im attracted to it sence) and well, now ive gott ahave the wheel off.

Of course this could only happen the night before the mot... sigh..

No idea whats wrong with it now

Sounds to me like you had a sticky caliper. Time to get them rebuilt and fit new flexi hoses, and I'd recommend a new master cylinder.

Julian (aka Bandit) popped round yesterday morning, he'd just been to Sutton Auto Factors
(in Sutton in Ashfield I assume), and he'd got a new caliper for £29 - he'd had his old ones
refurbed about 18mths ago, but they have since failed, hence him buying new ones yesterday.

Know what you mean about brakes failing tho, happened to me once in my G-reg Cavalier
driving on the M25 to the old DMUK garage in Southend. Doing 70 in the outside lane, cars up ahead brake, so I apply mine, pedal goes to floor, nothing happens. Very scary. My NS caliper
was that fubar, that there was smoke coming from the wheel, the plastic hubcap was soft with
the heat and the brake fluid was near enough boiling! Shock

I'm sure if you get in touch with Julian him he'll be able to tell you what the part x-ref was if
you still need to get a new set of calipers.

Front calipers are common Ford, rears are -not- the commonly available Jag, because the D pots are larger.
