It is part of the underbody, bonded into the fibreglass. Number 6 on this page:

Oh right! Hmmmm. Does that mean the original is mild steel, and to replace with the new stainless would mean literally cutting out the original and bonding in the new!?

Yep - got it in one. Both doors off, torsion bars removed etc.
