Steering is not the lightest on these cars at the best (compared to what we are used to with modern cars) as the advice before check the tyre pressures, look in the boot compartment and lift the carpet there should be an access point where you fill the brake fluid. You can remove that and see the steering shaft and UJ's (universal joints) try giving these a soaking with WD40 or similar.
Be interesting to know a bit nore of the history on these cars BTW

..basically because it's a very common failure item. instead of being a nice needle roller bearing like modern cars have, it's a couple of pegs in a couple of 'oles. When left to stand for years they tend to rust up. Usually a good amount of penetrant will loosen them but I would recommend removing them to do it - you can feel how bad they are in your hand a lot better than on the car. Often they are seized in one plane only meaning the steering goes tight-loose-tight-loose from lock-to-lcok.
