DeLorean to go back into (limited) production? - Calavera - 31 Jul 2007

Did anyone else see this on engaget? http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/30/delorean-being-brought-back-from-the-future/

Looks like a company in the US that refurbishes DeLoreans is running low on project cars and is considering building them from scratch. About 20 a year.

Interesting indeed. I'll stick with my 81 though I think Smile

i think i will stick with mine too ,not keen on a new delorean it would`nt have the same buzz you get with an old one

- Carl Hammond - 31 Jul 2007

Yep, couldn't agree more guys.

I think it would quickly lose it's unique appeal if it was ever mass produced.

I love it just the way it is! Big Grin

yes we dont want one with nothing wrong with it do we

Well maybe it would be second time lucky and all that....

I think that there might be a problem here in terms of panels. From what I understand there are enough around to last the community for a few years yet for replacements, etc.

To build new cars using existing panels would aid the depletion of stock.

I think it's an incorrect assumption that there aren't any 'project cars' available. Aren't there 3000 Deloreans sitting around in north america?

hmm.

Also, something I've always wondered (not worth a new thread). of the 3000 or so that are 'missing', how many do we think are in europe (specifically the UK)?

I'm just thinking about that story Chris P was telling about how he found Dusty in a barn near london with 4 miles on it. How many more like that here? :?

probably few or none.

Just a shame about the "In Europe a good Delorean can fetch £12,000" statement.

About £5k short I reckon.

Seems like a popular story I have had amongst others ITN news wanting opinions on this issue... not sure what they are ATM Smile

- Guinney1971 - 01 Aug 2007

Steve Wright just mentioned it on Radio 2 as well! Big Grin

- Chris Hawes - 01 Aug 2007

Did Steve cover the pricing of the cars?

- bozzzydmc - 01 Aug 2007

Like the Idea.

If there having the Chassis remade then maybe it could be engineered to have a modern, more powerful engine installed.

Does this mean that all of the short supply parts are now available ? Drivers torsion bars, interior carpets and left front wings come to mind.
