white LED festoon bulbs - Chris Hawes - 08 Sep 2006 I recently fitted a new switch (same as the glove box type) in the engine bay as my alarm system needs it and I am extremely anxious to upgrade the festoon bulb to an LED type due to the many reports of this being a potential fire hazard if left as is. I am also tempted to convert the other 3 festoon bulbs in the car to LED too (1x luggage compartment, 2x interior). Does anyone know of a source they can recommend before I revert to a random supplier and unknown quality of goods... Thanks in advance - Pilot25dmc - 08 Sep 2006 I buy all my LED's from these folks.. http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/default.php? ... 978ef9e1da Not sure from memory what size the bulbs for the inside lights are but I got them from this site and the bulb for the engine too, just measure the old bulbs, think they are 32mm for the engine and 28mm for the interior. I also managed to get the LED's for the headlight and the hazard switch from them aswell. They are the cheapest I have seen. - Birksie - 08 Sep 2006 If you are replaceing the interior festoon lamps with the LED equivelants, you will need a new dimmer/timer control unit for the LED's, as the one thats designed for the bulbs wont work with the LED's (The LED's dont draw enough current for it to operate correctly). But it will work if you have one LED festoon, and one element festoon (Standard bulb). A oportunity for someone to make a new dimmer/timer unit for the interior LED's festoons perhaps? - stunned_monkey - 09 Sep 2006 My experience of the LED festoon bulbs is of a really poor lighting effect. and if you've upgraded the switch there's no need to worry about melty lights in the engine bay, it's the switch that's the prob Update - Chris Hawes - 26 Sep 2006 Thanks for the info everyone. I already had a spare OEM switch, so as I just want a working light that would just drop in and do the job of providing light. In the end I went for http://www.dashlights.co.uk/cart.php?ta ... ory_id=273 It has 6x LED's within the festoon bulb and gave a pretty good light output. If you want even brighter I remember seeing a 9x and a 15x LED version with a different company that will still fit within the large stock DeLorean light casing. The latter cost more of course. I have decided to leave the other festoons stock as the luggage area is never open for long and I want both of the interior lights to dim (when I can get that aspect of the circuit to work). - NickT - 26 Sep 2006 that woud be the white module in the relay cmpartment. if it doesn't work i m sure Rich can fix it.
