New Spare Space Saver Wheel - Rissy - 11 Jul 2014 Hey folks. I'm suffering a bit from Nostalgia Over Practicality Syndrome (or "NOPS" for short - I can do that. ) I want to have a usable spare wheel in my boot. I have a perfectly good original wheel but with a 33yr old unused spare tyre on it which of course none of us, or at least very few of us would ever trust to use as a spare...BUT, I want to keep it that way... "but you don't understand! ....it's mint! it's never been used! ...LOOK, it still has all the tread and all those little rubber hairs sticking out which means it's still brand new!!!" etc etc Nostalgia is a killer isn't it!? I've got the following facts on our spare wheels: First, the tyre: We have a T125/70/D15 measured tyre. This means (for the unsure - i'm sure not many of us. Not pointing any fingers... JohnC ...cough. Sorry about that  ) that the tyre is 125mm wide and has a side wall of 70mm and the overall tyre is for a 15" sized wheel. (Why do thay mix mm and inches!? - crazy!) Now for the wheel: We have 4-stud 15" diameter wheels with a PCD of 100mm. The inner hub bore is 2" (51cm) and the stud holes are 3/8" in diameter. So now the problem i'm having. I have no idea what other cars might share this type of spare wheel measurement characteristics. I've searched online and most people just list spare wheels for the car they're off of or the tyre measurements without the PCD and bore/stud measurements too. Some alloy site have such detail but they are for huge F-off wheels for all the boy racers. I've heard a rumour in the past that the wheels from a Vauxhall Cavalier or a Corsa will fit, but these cars never came with space saver wheels, meaning they just will not fit the space provided in the boot of a D. Has anyone else ever had much luck with this which they've not told the rest of us about? Has anyone got a small modern car with a space saver wheel in the boot which they could do some measurement against for elimination or even better a "BINGO!" moment? I've looked at pictures on the internet and quite a few small car spare wheels like Toyota Yaris and some small Fiats look very close but this comment is only based on approximation and not a proper measurement. Any help would be appreciated. Re: New Spare Space Saver Wheel - Chris Williams - 11 Jul 2014 I wonder if a Calibra had a space saver?? that was (I Think) built out of Cavalier bits. I probably see more wheels than anyone but checking to see if they fit a 'D' is not an option! Chris Re: New Spare Space Saver Wheel - DMCNI - 11 Jul 2014 I owned two Calibra's and both came with space saver spares. The 2.0 8v & 16v engines are 4 stud design where the 2.5 V6 has a 5 stud pattern. Hope that helps. Look at your front and rear tyres, they're both 60 profile but the sidewall sure as eggs ain't a consistent 60mm front and rear is it? Re: New Spare Space Saver Wheel - bjbrownie - 12 Jul 2014 I've got a Renault 5 spare wheel in mine as I never had one when I bought the car-does the job if one of the front wheels punctures (touch wood not in 12 years!) and 2 cans of Holts puncture foam if one of the rears goes on me. On the lookout for an original space saver though...... 8) Re: New Spare Space Saver Wheel - Rich Hanlon - 17 Jul 2014 http://whichwheelsfit.com/index.php/sel ... -4-stud-90 Will be a 14" tyre but you can get a 185 which might give a similar rolling raduius... Re: New Spare Space Saver Wheel - Rich Hanlon - 17 Jul 2014 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/27102115 ... 0&ff14=108 If you just want to get the tyre off it and use it on your existing temporary hub... BUT, all these wheels have to wrong centre bore size (2" or 50.8mm required) Re: New Spare Space Saver Wheel - Rich Hanlon - 17 Jul 2014 Does the centre hole size matter? Its not like you have to fit it over or through anything... I reckon get one of those Daewoo ones and get the tyre off it to put on your existing rim... Re: New Spare Space Saver Wheel - Rissy - 17 Jul 2014 Rich Hanlon Wrote:Does the centre hole size matter? Its not like you have to fit it over or through anything... I'm not sure. I'd have to check and play with front and back axles with the original spare I guess. The whole point in me wanting a modern spare is so I can leave my original in it's present condition. Re: New Spare Space Saver Wheel - Kenny - 18 Jul 2014 Willinot on the Irish forum used a Rover 75 wheel although the centre had to be turned to the correct size. http://delorean.ie/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=849&hilit=spare+wheel Also a Nissan Tiida space saver tyre is the correct size and is also made by Goodyear if you wanted a new tyre on the DMC rim. http://delorean.ie/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=983&p=14160&hilit=spare+wheel#p14160 RE: New Spare Space Saver Wheel - er1c - 19 Feb 2019 I don't think my space save is original as its Bridgestone and I understand it should have been Goodyear. I had a ring around and there aren't many places who could source that size, well any to be honest. RE: New Spare Space Saver Wheel - Chris Hawes - 19 Feb 2019 My space saver original wheel had a none original Continental fitted which was a Continental CST 17 T125/70 R15 95M It was fitted to the space saver when I bought it and the car in 2002. When I recently went to use it, it wouldn't hold air so I've just replaced it with another of the above. Google T125/70 R15 and you'll see they aren't cheap but a little tyre like that has to be able to work on any corner of the car. I'm in the process of changing my jack/handle combo as I've had my second OEM fail after just one use. There is a good reason why that handle mechanism didn't catch on! RE: New Spare Space Saver Wheel - er1c - 20 Feb 2019 Thanks Chris, I saw those http://www.123tyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?dsco=420&typ=352956000&partner=1&ID=psm_rdd_uk_shopello&Country=DUK I was hoping to get a Goodyear but it looks like ebay only has considerably older ones. I think I will just bite the bullet and buy that one. RE: New Spare Space Saver Wheel - Dangermouse - 20 Feb 2019 It's more important to get a good year than a Goodyear. You'll probably never use it but a new tyre is better than an old pretty one. |
