DMUK & DMCH PRV's - Knight - 26 Aug 2006

I was just wondering is there a difference between the stage 2 PRV-6 from DMUK and the stage 2 from DMCH?

id wait for dmcl to get the EFI mod done then get stage 2 and that for better fuel eccom maybe Shock

Hiya

#1 it's DMC Ltd now
#2 Who are DMD? We've already got an EFI setup that works (tested and running on an odd-fire Stage II engine), but ran out of time before Eurofest to get it mapped properly. That engine is now out and the car's sold.
#3 DMC Texas' and our Stage II were developed independently although the principles are the same (free-flow exhaust, high lift cams, high compression etc) our approaches and parts sources are independent.

The biggest advantage of the EFI is not that it's electronic fuel injection, but that you can re-map the ignition - something that becomes quite compromised on the Stage II engines which want more advance at bottom end and less at top. Our setup allows us to fool with the original dizzy curve as well as map the fuelling

Doh!!!! well those who know me know about my eyesight Shock <-- not meant to mean shock for a change! Sorry Guys :-)

No although Stu is threatening to take his to Wickford to the place where we had the GTA wheelspinning on the rollers and maxing out at 240 at the wheels at 5000rpm.

I'm fairly sceptical on a lot of hp figures I've seen floating around now. Locally to us there's a guy with an Alpine GTA Atmo - same engine, regular cams, but triple webers and a free-flow exhaust that looks better than the stainless setup (doesn't mix the gases in the back box) and he gets 160hp at the wheels. The car is staggeringly quick compared to a DeLorean - although their back wheels are quite a bit smaller I have to say - I was running out of revs when I drove it today.

We've had a GTA Atmo engine donated which is basically (to us) a stage II engine bottom end. And because it was meant for carbs, there're no injector ports in the heads. That's just begging for the EFI setup, but it really needs the exhaust and because I'm planning on a 3 litre turbo, I don't really want to spend money in that direction :-(

do you know how much bhp you get with the stage2 upgrade? When i can find teh perfect D for me im thinking of stage 2 and EFI

One would hope to match DMCH's 197 at the flywheel, which translates to around 140 at the wheels. (60hp loss in the transmission according to the Alpine guys). In theory we should exceed it, especially with EFI

Remember accelleration is about torque, not hp. This is why a less powerful diesel tends to outrun a similar petrol in the midrange

We've found running more advance on the cams improves top end, and I personally prefer the feel of the engine taking off at above 4500rpm, being able to accellerate to over 90 in 3rd etc.

It's quick, and on test runs while developing it lots of grinning was being had!

The Stage 2 engine really does fly, Having the test engine in my Delorean for a the last 7 months it would easily keep up with a BMW 330D that decided to try and pull away from me.

I'm soon to work for Unique Performance in Farmers branch Texas, where they make replicas of the Shelby GT500(Eleanor) from Gone in 60 seconds. I was thinking I'd just fit one of their small block V8's in the engine bay, a tight fit but I feel that they car deserves the power to match the looks. I'll probably see if DMCH want my engine coz they seem to have an low inventory of stock engines.

The other factor you have to remember is weight distribution Troy. A Northstar V8 with all of the extra bits and pieces make it a particularly heavy V8. Other lighter V8's like the Chevy 350 have been done before but I don't know what the change in the handling would be like.

I am all for increased performance but not at the expense of the handling. PRV evolution at least adds little to the weight, right Martin?

If you ask nicely (bribery considered) the owner may take you out for a spin. It's a 3 litre turbo PRV pusing well over 300hp at the flywheel. It p!sses on my Skyline. It's the engine of choice for the back of the DeLorean but IMO it well exceeds the ability of the standard car to steer and stop - even the GTA struggles and it's got hoffing semi-slick tyres on the back.

Mine's sitting in the corner of the workshop if only Renault would get a wriggle on and supply me my pistons!
