prospective owner - schmarnst - 23 May 2014 Hi folks, thanks for having me, I'm hoping to become an owner very soon, but I wanted to ask for some advice. I'm looking at putting a deposit on a delorean and wanted to know if it was worth £23k. it's for sale with border reivers, but I fear that my heart will overrule my head! Can anyone tell me as a delorean virgin, what I should look or listen for when I go to see it? Thanks in advance, James Re: prospective owner - Chris Williams - 23 May 2014 Hi James and welcome. Not a lot known about this car other than it's mentioned hear: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=5186 If you look at the Ebay link there seems to have been a lot done to the car including a £900 new exhaust, plus A/C pump/starter/alternator/ plus lots of other bits. If the car is in very good condition it probably is worth 23k especially buying from a dealer, other than checking it all does what it's supposed to drives/stops/etc then check the frame underneath the car especially around the engine cradle and the front of the car. If you can get some pictures people will advise from these if your unsure. If you look at our for sale section of the forum two cars have recently been listed at 21k and 28k so the price is probably right if in good condition. Try to take a mechanical expert with you if at all (unless you are one) always good to have a second pair of eyes and ears! Chris Re: prospective owner - schmarnst - 24 May 2014 Thanks Chris, I'm going to try see it this weekend, and hopefully taking a pal who is a mechanic with me, but admittedly, he's not used to working on deloreans, as you don't see many about leeds. Can I also ask, how do you find living with them? Is insurance ridiculously expensive? I'm guessing most would use a classic limited mileage policy, but what on average do most pay? Sorry if all these questions are already answered in other threads, I'm a bit impatient like that! :? We have discounts in place with Hegerty's RH Specialist Insurance and Adrian Flux Insurance. Some people pay less than me some pay more, like all insurance you pay on the risk. The cars are great, easy to work on, nice to drive and something completely different! Chris |
