Exhaust Manifold Flow - dknight - 27 Nov 2012

Hello

so i was just discussing with my friend about making up an exhaust manifold for the delorean, he said to copy the existing no problem but questioned the layout and flow, saying it looks like a poor design for flow, with the crossover pipe giving one side more of a distance to cover, and where it meets will act as a bit of a wall for flow.

Has this ever been a problem with deloreans? i have the turbo renault alpine engine fitted so i am guessing it will be more important to my engine than the standard?

ive attached a very crude picture to show basically how he thinks it should have been designed for equal flow

any knowledge or info on it would help me, thanks

Yes it is a poor design, the S/Steel exhaust that you can buy eliminates all this and has equal branches going into the silencer. I think Martin G has fitted Alpine engines so it might be worth contacting him to see what he had done, however I suspect a bespoke exhaust is called for!
