Hood Bump Stop Cross Reference - Rissy - 09 Oct 2012
Hey all.
I'm in the mood for trying to fix the Hood Bump Stops:

The only part which is badly aged and worn for both of mine, are the rubber stops at the top of the modified bolt which screws into the body. So...I was hoping I could just find a cross reference for that part, and replace the rubber only on my stops rather than the whole things. (The whole things, as a complete replacement, stainless or not, are a complete rip!)
Anyone any ideas on a viable cross reference for the rubber bit? Ebay had brought up some stuff, but the difficulty is; without a frame of reference for the size of the things, or a full picture appreciation of how it looks, ALL over, then I can't get an idea if any are the right size, or indeed, if they will slip over the metal portion of the existing stop threaded portion ok.
Just wondered if anyone has ever done anything similar.....?

I spent weeks looking for equivalents and drew a total blank in this country.
Ed's stainless replacements are very nice, but massively overpriced - even if he's had to have a small batch specially made.
Dave H was supposed to be sending me some he'd sourced, but that was months ago now and I've long since got bored of nagging him.
I'm working one something as and when I get chance......

Because the rubber is literally falling away from the metal on mine, I can tell you that it is simply a bolt (M6?) which has had its hexagonal head ground down to only about 1-2mm of thickness. Then the rubber is slipped over the top of this. As I was saying, I was wondering if there was a way of just buying a rubber grommet type thing, and slip this over the metal again. When we went to Kirkby last month, Ed's dad reckoned it was a very similar piece to that found on a Rover (? Something ?). He has actually made his own, and they looked the part alright. So i think it IS possible to get a very close likeness which will screw directly in place.

This is like opening a can of worms Chris! lol! I have a list of silly little bits i'm after, which it's clear i'm not going to get any joy from D.Howarth for getting here in the UK. Would you be open to a short list?

have in the UK compared to Holland/the US.....

I would never buy anything from DMCH like a compressor or part that is 31 years old containing rubber parts although I believe they now sell new Clutch Master Cylinders. What they are really good at is supplying genuine parts that will fit although I don't like the change they made to the website where there is a generic sentence added now to every single item which means you no longer know what's re-manufactured and what's 31 years old....
Yes, you get stung by Customs repatriating parts that 'were' from the UK but their website is easy to use and you get the parts within 3-5 days. Providing you're not ordering just one part their shipping costs are very reasonable considering how quick you get it from across the pond.
