.. so, how much of our lives has been devoted to DeLorean's? - Guinney1971 - 16 Jul 2011 I was mulling things over the other day, as you do (when you get to my age lol), and it occurred to me that I've been around DeLorean's since early 2001, and then it hit me like a thunderbolt, OMG, I've spent a quarter of my life around one make of car and one car club!! (and I've no intention of changing allegiances anytime soon!) Now I've heard references before to 'stalwarts' and 'being part of the furniture', I know I'm not one of the longest serving in the Club (those honours go to people like Dave Howarth and Mike & Mary Hooper), but I reckon if we're talking being a part of the DOC-UK furniture, I must almost be a chair leg in longevity terms by now   So, fess up people, how long have you been involved with the car and/or the Club? Re: .. so, how much of our lives has been devoted to DeLorean's? - Nick H - 16 Jul 2011 Wow this got me thinking! (Bet you can hear the cogs turning.... ) I have had LJH for 11 years. So I joined the club back in 2000. Interest goes back to around 1989/90 when the school bus would get burned off every morning by a Ferrari Testarossa. The back seat mob would fantasise on giving this guy a run for his money. My hypothetical choice the DMC. Well none of us knew anything about the cars speed or technical aspects other than it was stainless steel. Looked cool, menacing with a little touch of evil  . My thought was the Testarossa driver would see the menacing DMC grill and pull over to get out of the way. Ahh the naivety  . Pre Internet folks. I managed to order Rise and Fall of a Dreamaker from the local library. Where upon my dreams of taking down Testarossa man soon evaporated  But I guess my involvement goes back to ringing up Rob Lamrock back in the early 90's. I joined the DOA about 1995. I only stayed a member for a year (economies of being a apprentice). I was contacted by Dave in '96 as he must have got Rob's mailing list but I never thought I would afford a D so I put the idea of owning one on the back burner. Little did I know that 4 years later I would own one. I don't think I can see the interest waining. I do weaken now and again with the the thought of a Ferrari Mondial. I could take both the kids out at the same time. But they don't seem to mind sharing. So I'll stick with the D 8) . Hope you enjoyed my ramblings..... Nick H Re: .. so, how much of our lives has been devoted to DeLorean's? - Guinney1971 - 16 Jul 2011 nice one Nick....... I'll fess up to having a poster of a red Testarossa and a white Countach on my wall in the 80's (ah, the joys of Athena posters! ) Re: .. so, how much of our lives has been devoted to DeLorean's? - bjbrownie - 17 Jul 2011 I've had an interest in Deloreans since I saw one on the news back in 1981, but was messing around with lots of cars back then, Ford Escorts,Capris,Cortinas and Mazda RX3s (thats another story), but it wasnt until 2000 that I started to look properly for a DMC-had the funds availible so after joining the club Dave Howarth found me #10556 for sale in Devon and 3 days later I had a DMC in my garage! Ever since then I must say that I use the car whenever possible ("we've got no milk, just nipping to Tescos") is a valid excuse for me to take the DMC! The worst thing I find is that i'm drawn to buying all things Delorean related whether its B.T.T.F or proper Delorean stuff. Never did any of that for my previous cars! 8) Re: .. so, how much of our lives has been devoted to DeLorean's? - Guinney1971 - 17 Jul 2011 lol, being around DeLorean's does become summat of an obsession, I think its more then just a car, its a 'scene', a sort of 'lifestyle choice'. Blimey, I should get a job as a psychologist!! Re: .. so, how much of our lives has been devoted to DeLorean's? - The Hoopers - 18 Jul 2011 Buying D stuff becomes addictive so watch out! We have loads of books on J Z Delorean, old magazines with D articles and I think about every model ever made plus plaques from car meets. The car is however still the star of the collection and never ceases to amaze me how much attention it gets when we take it out. Re: .. so, how much of our lives has been devoted to DeLorean's? - DMZ - 21 Jul 2011 Again, I'm going to ask, guys and gals, if anyone minds if I use bits of this in the magazine at some point, little asides and featurettes everyone will find interesting. Things like "I think its more then just a car, its a 'scene', a sort of 'lifestyle choice'" are golden quotes just to drop in here and there - it's fun commentary from the world of DeLorean! can credit you, or not, anonymise you, or not...if you're bothered... cheers! Eddie/Demelza Re: .. so, how much of our lives has been devoted to DeLorean's? - Guinney1971 - 21 Jul 2011 go for it! Re: .. so, how much of our lives has been devoted to DeLorean's? - Dan Willis - 22 Jul 2011 Jeez, now you're asking... Well, I joined the US club in my early teens - and then found the UK club in the late nineties. I met with Chris P and Martin G at Silverstone for my first "meet" around then too (I still have a picture somewhere of me looking very young sat in Chris'd RHD too). So, maybe 15 years as it stands - but the last 5 or 6 years have been DeLorean-less Still, I'm back now and will soon be on the hunt to continue the journey! I bought a house with my (now) wife and changed jobs a bunch of times. Cars weren't even secondary to the big plan. I tided myself over with a bike license for thrills and only now can I get back in to cars... so why not another DeLorean!
